Sovra letto d'erbette by Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni (1671-1751). Edited by Michael Talbot. For Soprano and basso continuo. Full score and parts. 25 pages. Published by Edition HH Music Publishers (HH.HH150-FSP). ISBN 978-1-904229-84-1. This cantata, from an important manuscript in Berlin containing 18 Albinoni cantatas for soprano and continuo, describes how Clori, seeing her beloved Clizio asleep in a grassy meadow, begs him to awake since only then will her love-pangs be stilled. The verse may be banal, but the lightness and grace of Albinoni's setting turns it into something delightful ! a precursor, almost, of the versions by Brahms and Wolf of In dem Schatten meiner Locken.

3 Trio Sonatas by Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713). Arranged by Ralph Sauer. Trombone Trio. For 3 trombones. Baroque. Advanced. Full score & set of parts. Published by Cherry Classics (CY.CC2149). A new set of 3 beautiful sounding Corelli Trio Sonatas for Trombone Trio transcribed by L.A. Philharmonic Principal Trombonist, Ralph Sauer. Opus 1, No. 2 in D major, Opus 1, No. 3 in G major, Opus 4, No. 1 in C major. Each trio of about 8 minutes in length is in a 4 movement structure of Slow-Fast-Slow-Fast. There are many great pure chorale harmonies, plus each 2nd movement has a contrapuntal style to it, which is great for building up keen ears and ensemble sense. These sonatas are of moderately advanced difficulty, in tenor and bass clefs. Endurance is not a problem because of the masterly editing of Mr. Sauer, who is legendary for his transcription skills. These trios can be performed by most College/University students and some keen high schoolers. Range goes from a pedal A for Bass Trombone to one high D for the 1st part, but most of the tessitura is in a normal range.

22 Madrigals, Venice 1536 (highly varied pieces) - Score by Verdelot. For various instruments (ATTB). Recorder Quartets. The Italian Madrigal. Score. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMMA03). Philippe Verdelot (? - 1552) was one of several non-Italian composers who settled in Italy and dominated the early development of the madrigal. He published nine volumes of madrigals, and his church music (Masses and motets) was published in anthologies all over Europe. Though many of his 4-part madrigals are chordal and song-like, as are Arcadelt's, he sometimes wrote in a more flowing, imitative style, as in the fine Madonna il tuo bel viso (included here). He also developed 5-part writing, varying the music with delicate contrasts of texture and careful attention to individual words or phrases, or enjoying the rich sonority of multiple low voices. This book contains all of the pieces from his 1536 edition. Includes preface, editorial and performance notes as well as complete text with English translations. About The Italian Madrigal From 1520 until the end of the 16th century, the madrigal was the focus of all that was new and exciting in Italian music. The new style and techniques developed then were imitated in many countries. De Lassus, da Rore, Ruffo & others are included in this series.

Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance. Score. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMIM11). Di tante ree sciagure by Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni (1671-1751). Edited by Michael Talbot. For Soprano and basso continuo. Full score and parts. 32 pages. Duration 7 minutes. Published by Edition HH Music Publishers (HH.HH143-FSP). ISBN 1-904229-73-5. This cantata, from an important manuscript in Berlin containing 18 Albinoni cantatas for soprano and continuo, is on the ever-popular subject of the separation of lovers. It records the departure of Irene from 'Adria' the conventional Arcadian code-word for Venice and doubtless was written to commemorate a genuine parting of, say, members of a court. Throughout, Albinoni maintains the simple, lightly elegiac mood that is the hallmark of his style.
