This work for soprano solo and SATB chorus was commissioned by the Norwich Festival of Contemporary Church Music. Tavener:'In the Orthodox Church, the Lament of the Mother of God is normally sung on Holy and Great Friday. In its full length it lasts about half and hour, and it is intoned by the Priest or Bishop while the people venerate the Epitaphios (or Shroud of the Dead Christ), which is in the centre of the church and decorated with flowers. The Lament must be sung with an ikon-like stillness and great purity. It grows in intensity as it climbs in tessitura, but without anything sudden or remotely melodramatic. For the Orthodox Church there is never the sense of absolute desolation felt by the Western Church on Good Friday. Hence the cry of the Mother of God Dost thou change my grief to gladness by thy Resurrection?, followed by the full forces: Rise O God, and judge the earth. New product for the week of May 7, 2012.

In Memory was written in memory of Glen Schaefer, and all the departed souls of America. The words come from the Orthodox Funeral Service and from a text by Mother Thekla. For SATB Choir A Cappella. John Tavener: The music should be sung with a shining solemnity, and should ideally be performed in a church or other building with reverberant acoustics. The solo bass sections refer to St Hermann of Alaska (the pre-eminent Orthodox saint of the Americas) and should be performed in the manner of a Byzantine pasltis. Another fantastic collection of songs by Peter Warlock, set for 2 and 3-part Upper Voices with Piano accompaniment. Warlock was a treasure of British song-writing, he composed and arranged a good deal of Choral music during his lifetime though little was originally conceived for ladies' choirs. These six songs were completed between 1918 and 1928, a period in which parlour piano was out of fashion due to the technologies that were being introduced, yet there was demand for part-songs and this was an opening for Warlock who re-wrote earlier solos. Magical and poetic, Warlock has a way with words, phrasing and melody and these songs are sure to delight singers, players and audiences. New product for the week of May 7, 2012.
