ISBN 9780786678419. Bluegrass; Play along. 8.75x11.75 inches.
The First Jam series was created to give children and beginners of all ages a book of simple, common tunes to learn. These are standard "Jam" tunes in the Bluegrass/Old Time music styles. All the books in this series are written in the same keys; they can all be played together without any problems. So get your friends or family who play guitar, mandolin, banjo, ukulele, dulcimer or Dobro together, grab these books and start jamming. Improvisation - Another idea behind writing the First Jam series was to provide a number of tunes that were easy to learn, but that are also a great to begin working on improvising. Each book offers the melody for that particular instrument as well as back-up chords for another instrument to accompany you. Each song is represented in Tab, notation and chord symbols. The accompanying CD has two tracks for each song. The first playing the song with the melody line, the second track offers just the backup so you can play the melody over it or even improvise. Tunes include: Cripple Creek, Old Joe Clark, Arkansas Traveler, Will the Circle Be Unbroken and many more.

A Guide To Non-Jazz Improvisation: Banjo Edition by Dick Weissman. Edited by Dan Fox. For Banjo (5-String). Improvisation. Bluegrass. Beginning-Intermediate. Book/CD Set. 136 pages. Published by Mel Bay Publications, Inc (MB.20832BCD).
ISBN 9780786675937. Bluegrass. 8.75" x 11.75" inches.
The non-jazz improvisation series is a concept that germinated in Dick Weissman's mind while he was attending music school. He wrote a 15-piece arrangement of the old square dance tune, Cripple Creek, and wanted the trombone to take a solo as part of the arrangement. When the trombonist kept playing a bebop solo that was totally unsuitable for the chart, Dick realized that - in addition to the many musicians who do not improvise - there are even jazz musicians who don't know how to improvise outside the limits of their own stylistic backgrounds. This book approaches the five-string banjo as a musical instrument freed from the prison of specific musical genres. Old-time music, clawhammer, bluegrass and many eclectic adaptations of the banjo are utilized to demonstrate a variety of musical styles. A number of the selections are in different tunings. All examples are written out in traditional and tablature notation.

This little songbook is a celebration of the spirit for use by ukulele entertainers and everybody else who wants to feel better in these often sad times of ours. There are no hymns or songs of praise as in a church, but the function is pretty much the same: the use of song to raise you out of yourself and onto another plateau where all is merry and bright. An alternative medicine to pills and the like. I want you to use these songs like friendly weapons. Wield them gaily at gatherings-parties, concerts, restaurants, business meetings, railway stations, airports, political demonstrations. You'll spread happiness, contentment and peace wherever you sing them. If we only had an army of ukesters singing these numbers we could march into any troubles part of the globe and within moments every belligerent would lay down their arms and surrender. Soon all would be joining in the fun. Pull out your ukuleles and follow the dancing print.
