Sonata St. Marc by Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni (1671-1751). Arranged by David Marlatt. For Clarinet & Keyboard. Masterworks; Solo; Woodwind - B-Flat Clarinet Solo. Eighth Note Publications. Baroque. Part(s). Duration 00:06:20. Published by Eighth Note Publications (AP.81-SC2223). This was originally a popular solo for oboe and strings. This arrangement for clarinet and keyboard (organ or piano) has been carefully edited with suggested articulations, dynamics and ornaments. This four movement work would make an excellent recital or recording project. Albinoni’s characteristically elegant lyrical melodies are offset by flowing scale passages in the fast movements.

Two Canzoni Da Sonar (Including Girometta) - Score and parts by Cangiasi. For 2 Violins, Viola, and Cello; or SATB Recorders. String Quartets, Quintets etc., Recorder Quartets. Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance. Score and Parts. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMIM12). Little is known about Giovanni Antonio Cangiasi, except that he was born in Milan, and was a member of the Franciscan order: in 1590 he was organist at the cathedral in Vercelli, and in 1602 was working at San Francesco in Milan. By 1614 he was organist at Castelnuovo di Scrivia, a small town between Milan and Genoa. These pieces are mostly often playful, often eccentric, and sometimes even bizarre. - BT. About Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance These pieces are primarily for 2 or 3 instruments. Playable on recorders, viols - and some on crumhorns. Primarily available with just score - although later editions include parts.

3 Pieces From Capricci In Musica (1564) - Score and parts by Ruffo. For SAT Recorders or Treble Viol, Tenor Viol, and Bass Viol. String Trios, Recorder Trios. Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance. Score and Parts. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMIM02). This volume presents three more pieces from Ruffos Capriccii in Musica of 1564. For four more pieces from the same source see the first volume of the present series; three more pieces can be found in our anthology Capricci e Ricercari (LPM TM21). The Ruffo print is a remarkable collection, containing pieces that are quite different from the run-of-the-mill Italian instrumental works of the mid-sixteenth century: instead of the usual fantasias based on a string of points of imitation Ruffo uses single parts from madrigals or chansons, or popular dance tunes, as a basis for for a rather distinctive kind of almost improvisatory writing in the free parts. CONTENTS: La Brava Martin minoit son portiau au marche Martin minoit son portiau au marche (transposed) La Sol Fa Re Mi. 4 Pieces From Capricci In Musica (1564) - Score by Ruffo. For ATB Recorders; or Treble Viol, Tenor Viol and Bass Viol. Recorder Trios, String Trios. Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance. Score. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMIM01). Vicenzo Ruffo (ca. 1510-1587) is an interesting and unjustly neglected figure. He was a prolific composer, producing a large number of motets and masses. However, it was as a composer of madrigals that he was most successful. Strong rhythmic interest is perhaps the most outstanding feature of his music; harmonically he was less daring than his more famous contemporary Cipriano da Rore (1515-1565). He spent most of his working life in Verona and in Milan, where he was director of music at the cathedral from 1565 to 1572. The collection from which the present pieces are taken, the Capricu in Musica a tre voci (Milan, 1564), is Ruffos only publication of instrumental music. It is an unusual collection in its mixture of popular and academic elements. CONTENTS: La Disperata La Danza La Piva La Gamba in basso e soprano. 7 Fantasies (1592) - Score by Buona. For SST/AAT Recorders, or 2 Violins and Viola. Recorder Trios, String Trios. Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance. Score. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMIM07). Little is known of the life of Valerio Buona. He was born in Brescia, and at some stage became a Franciscan. Around 1590 he was maestro di cappella at the cathedral at Vercelli; in 1596 he was working in Milan. In 1611 he returned to Brescia, only to move on to Verona three years later. He had at least eight volumes of church music published, in Milan from 1590 to 1594, and in Venice between 1600 and 1619. It is likely that at least six collections of his secular pieces were published. The most striking feature of these pieces is the unusual layout of the parts, with the two upper parts sharing the same range, and with a substantial gap of about an octave between these and the lowest part. In fact this kind of texture was absolutely typical of the canzonette of the time (including the eighteen that Buona printed in his 1592 book) and the apparent anomaly of the present pieces is simply a case of the composer having transferred a texture that was perfectly normal in vocal pieces to purely instrumental music in which it was relatively uncommon. - BT. About Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance These pieces are primarily for 2 or 3 instruments. Playable on recorders, viols - and some on crumhorns. Primarily available with just score - although later editions include parts.

8 Fantasies (1590) - Score edited by Thomas. For Violin and Viola; or AT Viols; or SA/ST Recorders. String Duets, Recorder Duets. Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance. Score. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMIM08). Generally speaking, the pieces are paced fairly carefully so that the busiest writing appears about two-thirds to three-quarters of the way through. The first and last pieces are slightly different, in that they use elements from the canzon da sonar, which was rapidly becoming the most popular form of instrumental music at this time; the opening themes of both these pieces use the typical opening rhythm, and in both cases the first section reappears at the end. - BT. About Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance These pieces are primarily for 2 or 3 instruments. Playable on recorders, viols - and some on crumhorns. Primarily available with just score - although later editions include parts.

7 Ricercari (1588) - Score by F. Guami. For Treble Viol and Bass Viol, or SA Recorders. String Duets, Recorder Duets. Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance. Score. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMIM04). Francesco Guami was born in Lucca in about 1544, and died there in 1601 or 1602. He worked as a sackbut player at the court chapel in Munich from 1568 to 1580 under Lassus, and afterwards held the position of maestro di cappella in various places in Germany and Italy, finally returning to his birthplace in 1598. As a composer he seems to have been somewhat overshadowed by his more famous brother Gioseffo (a prolific composer of instrumental canzoni, madrigals and motets), but he did publish some books of madrigals as well as the duos found here. 10 Ricercari (1588) Canto & Tenor String Instrument - Score by F. Guami. For AT Recorders; TB Viols; or Violin and Viola. Recorder Duets, String Duets. Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance. Score. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMIM03). These rather demanding pieces are similar to the duos of Lassus in style and quality, especially in the way that they gradually build up to a rhythmic climax. - BT.
