Symphony No.8 in C Minor (2nd Version) by Anton Bruckner (1824-1896). Edited by Nowak. Contemporary Large Ensemble/Orchestra. For [3.3.3.3-8.3.3.1], Timpani, Percussion, 2-3 Harps, Strings (Horn 5-8 can be played by Wagner tubas). Contemporary. Full score. Composed Composed: 1890. Duration 90 minutes. Published by Bruckner Verlag (PE.BR0008-L). ISBN 979-0-50025-171-2. Contemporary. In his day, Robert Haas endeavored to compile an 'optimum' version of the Eighth from both scores; Leopold Nowak, by contrast, believed it quite possible to discern Bruckner's final preferences--particularly in the case of the Eighth--and was adamant that the "correction" of Bruckner scores to bring them into line with time-hallowed notions of how they should sound was no longer to be tolerated.Full score.

Symphony No.7 in E Major by Anton Bruckner (1824-1896). Edited by Leopold Nowak. Contemporary Large Ensemble/Orchestra. For [2.2.2.2-4.4Wagner-Tuba.3.3.1], Timpani, Triangle, Cymbal, Strings. Contemporary. Full Score. Composed Composed: 1883. Duration 65 minutes. Published by Bruckner Verlag (PE.BR0007-L). ISBN 979-0-50025-266-5. Contemporary. Of all the autographs of the symphonies, that of the Seventh was the only one used as a model for the engraving of the printed edition, which consequently gives a very clear rendering of the original score and the changes that Bruckner made after the first performance. For the first Complete Edition edition, Robert Haas "reversed the erasures"; in this edition, Leopold Nowak presented the score as Bruckner intended it to be passed on to posterity.Full score (3rd revised edition 2003).

Grouse Creek Symphony by Gary Gackstatter. For Full Orchestra (Flute I/Piccolo, Flute II, Oboe I, Oboe II/English Horn, Clarinet in Bb I, II, Bass Clarinet in Bb, Bassoon, Horn in F I, II, III, Trumpet in C I, II, III, Trombone I, Trombone II, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion 1 (Suspended Cymbal, Snare Drum, ). Orchestra Music. Grade 4. Score and parts. Published by C. Alan Publications (CN.14690). I. Overture: The LandII. The TreesIII. The WaterIV. The SkyV. The PeopleI have always felt more at home on a dirt road than on a freeway. One of my first explorations of Cowley County was driving the Grouse Creek road to Dexter. It was summer, and I was listening to Aaron Copland's Appalachian Spring as I drove that evening, marveling at the farmland, the limestone roadcuts and winding road, the music providing a soundtrack to the sites I was seeing through my windshield like a movie. I later learned that I was in the Flint Hills. My explorations of our county further expanded to finding out more about its people and history, and later to lead tours of our limestone bridges, barns and buildings, many of which are in the Grouse Creek Valley. I've taken over 2,000 people out into our countryside in the last several years, and more than a few of these tourists have exclaimed, "Kansas ain't so flat!"Indeed. Our particular section of the state has some of the most breath-taking views I've seen anywhere. And if you love history, you'll find a treasure trove ranging from prehistoric tribes to Land Rush cowboys. Walking through a plowed field around here, you might find a stone axe, a mule's shoe or a rusted piece of farm machinery. This land we walk on every day knew hundreds of generations of feet before ours. Our land forms us more than we will ever know.I first saw one of Mark Flickinger's paintings several years ago, and this symphony is designed to be performed with his artwork projected onto screens on stage. His approach to landscape painting captures our land in ways that go far beyond my capacity for words. In my three previous symphonies, as in most of my compositions, I combine various arts with music, hoping to add depth to both. Mark's paintings have inspired this work from first note to last; I'll never tire of looking at them.So this is my hope for The Grouse Creek Symphony: that through the music and art, we can deepen our appreciation for what's in our own backyard. May we never take for granted the beauty of the land and sky, trees, water and people.Gary Gackstatter.

Trombone Concerto by Derek Bourgeois (1941-). Orchestra Music. Score and parts. Duration 20:00. Published by C. Alan Publications (CN.R99902). Derek Bourgeois is one of Britain's leading composers for brass and military bands and for solo wind instruments. Early in his career he showed a strong interest in the trombone and wrote a triple concerto for three trombones and orchestra. The idea was that the entire trombone section of an orchestra could come forward and display their abilities as a group and individually. While the premiere audience was strongly enthusiastic about the piece, it was rarely played after that. In 1988 Bourgeois returned to the trombone as a concerto instrument for the occasion of the first international trombone symposium in London, which was held in 1988. It is a substantial twenty-minute piece in three movements, "Allegro," "Adagio," and "Presto." Because trombonist from the worlds of pop and jazz would attend the symposium as well as classical artists, Bourgeois decided to make his new concerto musically ecumenical, and it was deliberately tailored to have an appeal wider than the usual classical audience. The third movement, in particular, was a great hit. The concerto was written for the Swedish player Christian Lindberg, who premiered it.

The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere - Wind Symphony Score and Parts. (for SATB divisi Choir and Wind Symphony). By Rene Clausen. For SATB divisi choir and wind Symphony: piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, english horn, 2 bassoon, 3 clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, 4 horn, 3 cornet, 2 trumpet, 2 trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion (. Major Work. Conductor's score and instrumental parts. Published by Roger Dean Publishing (LO.30-2433R). As an accomplished conductor, pianist, and brass player, Rene Clausen is uniquely qualified to write a piece for choir and wind symphony while avoiding the inherent pitfalls in such a work. The instruments never cover the singers, the singers do not have to over-sing to be heard, and the resulting overall effect is an exciting and stunning work that will inspire the performers and thrill the audience. Using the famous Longfellow poem, "The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere," Dr. Clausen's five movements invoke the excitement of the horse ride as well as the quiet of the streets, the beauty of the night, the history of the rickety old bell tower, and the breathless excitement as the message is delivered. Tuba Concerto by John Golland. Arranged by Christiaan Janssen. For tuba and concert band. Baton Music Instrumental Series. Opus 46. Grade 5. Full score and parts. Duration 17:30. Published by Baton Music (BF.BM364-SET). Only after John Golland passed away in 1993 the score of his Tuba Concerto Op. 46 was found. The first performance of this work was given by Andrew Duncan and the Halle Orchestra at the Halle Proms at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, in July 1997. The work is considered as a revelation. It is a colorful piece with many fine touches of effective scoring and full of melodic charm. The slow movement is a beautifully atmospheric, exquisitely scored Nocturne.

Turn the Page by Daniel McCarthy. For Full Orchestra (Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, English Horn, Bb Clarinet 1-2, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Bb Trumpet 1, 2, 3, F Horn 1, 2, 3, Trombone, Tuba, Timpani (5), Percussion 1 (suspended cymbal, 4 tom-toms, snare drum, rain stick, claves, bongos), Percussion 2 (suspended cymb). Orchestra Music. Score and parts. Duration 7:30. Published by C. Alan Publications (CN.11300). The writing of "Turn the Page" was the result of my association with conductor and good friend Jung Ho Pak (New Haven Symphony and World Youth Symphony Orchestras). Maestro Pak and I met at The Interlochen Arts Camp where we are both faculty and we collaborate on the orchestra reading project with the student composers. Our conversations over the years have included the future of the orchestra and new orchestral music in our society. Audiences have lost a great deal of context with new music over the past 90 years, in my opinion, and new music has remained an anomaly for many listeners. So when I decided to write Jung Ho an orchestra piece, I knew it had to be music that meant something to listeners--something that would have cultural context to an audience and yet be challenging and interesting to play. And a piece that would be played more than just once.I seek a certain drama and excitement in my music. Perhaps that is why I am so attracted to composers like Mahler, Stravinky, and Daugherty. But I also have a diverse listening palate having played big band jazz as a lead trumpet player and funk as a synthesizer player.Often when I travel, especially on long driving trips, I will listen to old "art-rock" of bands such as "Yes," "Genesis," and "Led Zeppelin." One of my favorite tunes is "Heartbreaker" from the album "Led Zeppelin II." It has a very unusual guitar solo in the middle of the song--Unusual, because the band stops playing and Jimmy Page takes a motivically oriented solo, much like a cadenza in a concerto. It was the first time anything like that was ever done in that genre and was really the beginning of guitarists becoming virtuosos on their instruments. Actually, that solo had all the fire of a Tchaikovsky or Mendelssohn concerto cadenza.Hence, the idea came to be to combine the suggestion of this solo with orchestra and, later, to use an electric guitar or CD recording of the actual solo with the orchestra. It seemed to me that all the power of Led Zeppelin was certainly in good company with a full-sized symphony orchestra--Witness Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring." Could any rock band create that much excitement?-DWM.
