An arrangement created by the composer from the third movement of 'Salt of the Earth', a Concerto for Tuba & Brass Band, commissioned by Les Neish, premiered by Les & Foden's Band at the RNCM Festival of Brass 2008, and recorded on the award-winning CDs 'Salt of the Earth' (World of Brass SFZ 150) & 'Double Trouble' (World of Brass SFX 152).
'Salt of the Earth Finale' is scored for Brass Band and was arranged especially for Foden's Band recording of the 'A World Within' CD in February 2010. The CD was released in September 2010 at the British Open Brass Band Championship at Symphony Hall, Birmingham & awarded British Bandsman CD of the Year 2010.
'Salt of the Earth Finale' is proving popular with other instruments, being recorded on the CD 'The Bad Tempered Flute - the Flute Music of Andy Scott' (Nimbus Alliance), included in the playalong book by Andy Scott & Mark White 'Access All Areas', and performed by amongst others, the Tempest Flute Trio & Andy Scott's SaxAssault."
In a way this arrangement for tuba and piano is a case of coming full circle with Salt of the Earth Finale, in that I have arranged it for Les Neish to premiere at ITEC in Linz, Austria, in June 2012, especially pleasing as Les commissioned and funded the original Concerto!"

The tuba version of Deep Blue was arranged by the composer for Les Neish, to premiere at ITEC 2012 in Linz, Austria. Originally scored for tenor saxophone & piano, Deep Blue was commissioned and funded by Alex Bradbury and dedicated to Australian saxophonist Erin Royer.
Andy writes “Australia and its beautiful coast and surrounding seas holds a strange fascination for me. I imagined stunning underwater scenes when writing this piece of music; deep and murky waters, the sun shining into the shallower areas, fish suddenly darting past, silvery flashes of light, the unexpected around every corner, whilst time itself seems to be in slow motion”.
The word ‘blue’ also conjures other images; in particular the colour itself, and also the association with jazz & blues.

Scored for solo tuba 'Eighteen' is a dynamic exploration of rhythm, energy, angular intervals and melodic development. Originally commissioned for solo saxophone, by friends and family of Spencer Moran, to celebrate his eighteenth birthday, Eighteen has also proved popular with flute players, being recorded by the virtuoso Andy Findon on the CD 'The Bad Tempered Flute - the Flute Music of Andy Scott (Nimbus Alliance). The tuba version of Eighteen was arranged for and premiered by Les Neish, at ITEC in Linz, Austria in June 2012.
A strong internal pulse is the key to an effective performance of 'Eighteen', the rests being as important as the notes. Pay careful attention to given dynamics and articulation, which all add to the overall shape and form of the piece. 'Funky & Hard Edged' is the initial stylistic guide, indicating that 'Eighteen' should be played with a 'take no prisoners' attitude!

Andy Scott was commissioned by the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester UK, to compose a work for a concert marking the retirement of RNCM Principal, Professor Edward Gregson in 2008. And Everything is Still was inspired by a poem by Lemn Sissay from his children’s book, The Emperor’s Watch Maker.
A simple melody unravels alongside a calm and gentle atmosphere. Originally scored for Flute and Piano, Andy has arranged the piece for tuba for his friend and virtuoso performer Les Neish. Recorded by Les Neish & Martyn Parkes (piano) on the CD 'Shine' (Doyen CD274)
