Playing a hi-hat splash here and there, on an upbeat or a downbeat, is not too difficult. However, producing a splash at various positions along the beat, and integrating the splash with bass kicks as well as off-beat accents on the snare drum, is a major problem. Splashdown is an in-depth study which deals with this problem. Essentially, it is a study of four-way coordination with hi-hat splashes as the major focus.
