Cast a spell up and down the fingerboard as fingers add and subtract. A strong string march rhythm provides structure and drive as young players practice beginning finger patterns! "March of the Mathemagicians" can be played by first year players who have mastered the D Major scale and all notes are in first position with no high 3s or forward extensions. With the exception of a few notes on the G in the basses, all sections use only the D and A strings. Each section has the opportunity to play the very easy melody. This catchy, toe-tapping tune is readily accessible for first year players and will be a highlight of any concert.

Toronto-based power trio Rush was formed in 1968 by guitarist Alex Lifeson, bassist and singer Geddy Lee, and drummer John Rutsey. The band made their way through the Canadian bar scene until they signed a recording deal and released their self-titled debut album in 1974. However, it wasn't until Rutsey left the group and Neil Peart signed on as their new drummer that Rush's signature sound took shape, a muscular variation on progressive rock marked by the keen instrumental prowess of all three members and the lyrically and musically adventurous songwriting of Peart. With little help from the music press or mainstream radio, Rush grew into a commercial powerhouse, releasing a long string of multi-platinum albums and playing sold-out shows in North America and Europe. A notoriously reclusive band, Rush offer their fans a rare and intimate behind-the-scenes look into their music and their career in this documentary DVD, which features exclusive interviews with the members of the group and footage of them on- and off-stage as well as contributions from a number of famous fans - from Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Gene Simmons of KISS to Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails and actor and musician Jack Black. Directed by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn, this DVD premiered at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival. 1 hour, 46 minutes.Return Policy Exception: This product can not be returned if opened but it can be exchanged if defective, for the exact same title.

This lively solo employs staccatos and hand crossings to effectively depict handsprings on the keyboard. The A section is written with both hands in bass clef. The left hand frequently crosses over the right hand throughout the piece. The short B section is followed by a return to A, written one octave higher than the opening, thus requiring both hands to be written in treble clef for much of this section. The 3/4 meter gives this C major piece a fun and playful feel.

Eartraining is a vital (and sometimes neglected) skill that enables musicians to hear ahead in their playing and writing. These unique, modern courses have been used by hundreds of students (from beginners to working pros) at the acclaimed Grove School of Music in Los Angeles. These methods use SOLFEG (the syllables Do, Re, Mi, etc.) to apply the techniques within a key-center based relative pitch framework. Level One works on hearing and transcribing melodies, rhythms, intervals and bass lines and moves on to identify triads and simple progressions. Level Two covers hearing and transcribing triad and four-part chord progressions, key changes, chromatic tones, modal scales, and combining melodic and harmonic dictation. Both levels include vocal drills and exercises.

The sounds of Spain are heard throughout this piece, beginning with its fanfare-like introduction and ending with the same material in the coda. It is written in the key of D natural minor and in 3/4 meter. After the 15-measure introduction, the following section is slower and lyrical. Here, the melody is in the right hand and the left-hand using an extended bass figure. This section is expanded by a trill figure that gradually gets faster and leads into a repeat of the melodic material one octave higher. The last 16 measures of the solo are a return to the first tempo and the same thematic material that builds to a full and rich conclusion.

The Empire State celebrates the state of New York and some of its most popular tourist destinations. New York City is featured in the first movement with a trip to the composer's first home "On Boynton Avenue." The fast tempo of this piece and swing eighth notes create an upbeat tribute to this great city. The second movement, "Adirondack Reverie," depicts Adirondack State Park. It is a slow and peaceful serenade with a lyrical melody and extended bass line accompaniment. And, of course, no trip to New York State would be complete without a visit to Niagara Falls. In "Niagara," the final movement of this suite, the sound of the waterfall is recreated by using the entire range of the keyboard and rich harmonies that grow throughout the movement. Intermediate (UK Exam Grades 3-4).
