This lively solo employs staccatos and hand crossings to effectively depict handsprings on the keyboard. The A section is written with both hands in bass clef. The left hand frequently crosses over the right hand throughout the piece. The short B section is followed by a return to A, written one octave higher than the opening, thus requiring both hands to be written in treble clef for much of this section. The 3/4 meter gives this C major piece a fun and playful feel.

The sounds of Spain are heard throughout this piece, beginning with its fanfare-like introduction and ending with the same material in the coda. It is written in the key of D natural minor and in 3/4 meter. After the 15-measure introduction, the following section is slower and lyrical. Here, the melody is in the right hand and the left-hand using an extended bass figure. This section is expanded by a trill figure that gradually gets faster and leads into a repeat of the melodic material one octave higher. The last 16 measures of the solo are a return to the first tempo and the same thematic material that builds to a full and rich conclusion.

The Empire State celebrates the state of New York and some of its most popular tourist destinations. New York City is featured in the first movement with a trip to the composer's first home "On Boynton Avenue." The fast tempo of this piece and swing eighth notes create an upbeat tribute to this great city. The second movement, "Adirondack Reverie," depicts Adirondack State Park. It is a slow and peaceful serenade with a lyrical melody and extended bass line accompaniment. And, of course, no trip to New York State would be complete without a visit to Niagara Falls. In "Niagara," the final movement of this suite, the sound of the waterfall is recreated by using the entire range of the keyboard and rich harmonies that grow throughout the movement. Intermediate (UK Exam Grades 3-4).

Students can play this piece "as they like it" because the eighth notes can be either swung or played straight. Written in C major and 4/4 meter, the focus of the piece is the left hand that features a repeating walking bass pattern. If the eighth notes are swung, the solo takes on a more jazz-like character. Either way, it is a jaunty solo filled with rhythmic vitality and lots of patterns for ease in learning.

A raw energy is created musically by hard-driving rhythms, modal sounds and open intervals of fourths, fifths and octaves in this primitive-sounding duet. The rhythmic accents of the primo part shift over the secondo's repeated bass patterns. This piece is not only fun to play, but showy for a talented duet team. 12 pages.

This impressionistic cradle song was composed by Chopin in 1843 and first performed by the composer in early 1844. It is one of only two pieces by Chopin with a descriptive title, implying that he had definite pictures in his mind while composing it. Berceuse, Op. 57 is centered around a one measure repeating bass figure, and a four measure theme which constantly evolves into a series of imaginative variations. Detailed performance notes are also provided in this informative edition.
