Don't Press Too Hard! is a free stroke Guitar tutor which aims to provide a method of learning to play the Guitar combining maximum musical effect with minimum physical effort in an entertaining and purposeful way. This is achieved by: Giving priority to right hand development so that fluency, simplicity and rhythmic control are always given prime consideration. Most of the right hand patterns are arpeggio based and lend themselves best to free strokes. Pima are used in an integrated way that does not relegate p to a supportive bass role. In keeping with most other tutors of stringed instruments, more sophisticated rhythms are introduced at an early stage rather than extending the note range. Stopped notes are introduced in order of accessibility, beginning with those in the resonant middle register. Use of the left hand stretch between the 1st and 3rd left hand fingers has been deferred in favour of an early introduction of the 4th, encouraging use of a balanced tripod between 1, 2 and 4. Rests and articulated bass notes are introduced at a very early stage. The indication to stop over-ringing bass notes is discontinued half-way through the book, hopefully by then the pupil will have gained the habit and aural awareness. Minimal left hand fingering avoids 'reading by numbers'. There is little written text, most things are best explained by the teacher.

Long before the current boom of interest in Celtic music fostered a generation of aspiring Celtic guitarists, Duck Baker recorded Kid On The Mountain, which remained the only solo guitar recording of Irish and Scottish music for over a decade. A familiar figure at Irish sessions around London, where he lived in the late 1970s, Duck applied his considerable arranging talents to the music he heard around him, extending the American fingerpicking vocabulary as he delved into the roots of Celtic music. Duck Baker's arrangements strive to maintain not only the melodic elegance of Irish music but also its drive and passion. Considered a classic by guitar aficionados since its original issue in 1980, Kid on the Mountain remains a high point in the career of one of the most important contemporary fingerstylists.

Mickey Baker, best known for his Mickey & Slyvia hit Love is Strange, lived in France for the last thirty years of his life. During that time he played jazz as well as delving back into the roots of Black American music. As a result he began to experiment with various country blues techniques and styles. This exploration led to his album Blues and Jazz Guitar of Mickey Baker (SGGW107). At the same time he also began to perform as a solo jazz and blues artist which was quite different than his past where he usually fronted either a jazz or a rock band. His solo blues playing took him around Europe and during the last years of his touring throughout Africa on three occasions. On his last tour of Africa he was joined by the excellent bass player Alex Sanders and Mickey's show was able to expand to the full gambit of his musical experiences - from country blues to jazz. During this tour Alex and Mickey started to compose together and decided to try and record an album that would highlight their sounds and explorations. This is, in fact, the first jazz rock guitar album that Mickey Baker has ever done. It is full of surprises and intriguing sounds from a rendition of Rachmaninoff's Prelude In C# Minor to the disco sound of Alexander's Funk Time to the 7/4 of Ouagadougou. Plus for this album Mickey combined his skills of being one of the finest jazz guitarists with those of a teacher and prepared a tab/music booklet for students.
