Advanced . A wonderful collection of 13 original jazz songs by the masterful artist/composer Randy Brecker, comprising a wide variety of modern and straight-ahead styles. Book includes the lead line and harmony parts transposed for all instruments. Although notably most famous for his work as one-half of the Brecker Brothers group, Randy is highly regarded as one of the best jazz trumpeters in the world. Randy played on the first Blood Sweat & Tears album, Child Is Father to the Man , was a charter member of Larry Coryell's seminal jazz fusion band The Eleventh House in 1973, and is currently a part of the GRP All-Star Big Band. Unique to this exciting play-a-long is a separate CD of Randy (with Ada on tenor) playing the melodies with the rhythm section, so that you can hear exactly how the songs should be played (hear sound samples!). Rhythm Section: Steve Allee (p); Bill Moring (b); Tim Horner (d) Includes: There's A Mingus Amonk Us Shanghigh Some Skunk Funk Marble Sea Thrifty Man Incidentally Free Fall Hit Or Miss The Sleaze Factor You're In My Heart Moontide Dirty Dogs Tokyo Freddie.

Book and 4 CDs!!! For all instrumentalists wishing to improve their "time", sharpen their harmonic awareness, or just experiment with different rhythm section configurations. The best way to develop ""good time"" is to play with musicians who have good time; musicians like Adam Nussbaum and Jay Anderson. This 4-CD SET includes 15 play-a-long tracks of various tempos and styles based on the changes to well-known standards. Each CD has a different mix, allowing maximum versatility as follows: CD #1 is a split track with bass on one channel and drums on the other. CD #2 is Bass Only on both channels. CD #3 is Drums Only on both channels. CD #4 is Piano on both channels, bass on the left, and drums on the right. Bassists will love playing with drums-only CD. Drummers will love playing with the Bass-only CD. Pianists and Guitarists will enjoy soloing or comping with any of the first three mixes. Horn Players will enjoy playing with any of the CDs. Many jazz groups over the years have had success with pianoless or bassless or drumless groups, such as Gerry Mulligan and Sonny Rollins. Bass and drum accompaniment (without guitar or piano)leads to better hearing, enhanced harmonic awareness, and an overall freer sound. The lack of a comping instrument also allows the mind to concentrate more on playing with a good time feel. This versatile, first-of-its-kind play along is sure to become a favorite. Tune List {Song titles in ( ) have similar harmonic formulae}: 1. Relaxin' (F Blues) 2. Runnin' & Gunnin' (I Got Rhythm) 3. Soulful Times (Old Folks) 4. Mr. Alex (Cantaloupe Island Type Tune) 5. The principal theme from the second movement is equal in fame and popularity to Pachelbel's Canon and Albinoni's Adagio. This incredibly simple and beautiful theme was set to words by one of Dvorak's pupils William Arms Fisher. The resulting song Goin' Home is now as famous as the original symphonic writing. This incredibly beautiful melody can now be performed by a high school level ensemble. The horn and flugelhorn share in the principal theme and the first trumpet and trombone have a great duet passage in the middle section. A must on every brass program!

Featured solos by euphonium, horn, cornet and first trumpet make this work interesting for all the performers. Elgar's haunting melody flows through the ensemble finally reaching the climax at the very end. This is a great piece to show off the ensemble's musicality, blend and balance. Relatively easy parts for most players make this an ideal selection for a point on the program possibly between two loud and technical pieces for a more calm and relaxed brass sound. This piece is also available for double brass quintet.
