The edition I am using is the Simon Rowland-Jones version printed by Peters Editions. I feel this is by far the best version to date--it's clean, clear, and has some useful notes in the front. --Helen Callus (Strings, July 2010, "There's Always Room for Cello, Even on a Violist's Music Stand") arranged for viola solo.

Faures Sicilienne gibt es in verschiedenen Fassungen. Das Stuck wurde ursprunglich 1893 als Teil einer B�hnenmusik komponiert, dann aber 1898 in Maeterlincks Pelleas et Melisande als Einleitung zu der Brunnenszene aufgenommen. Faure selbst fertigte einen Auszug fur Klavier wie auch eine Version fur Violoncello und Klavier an. Die Bearbeitung fur Violine besteht zum grossten Teil darin, dass die Cellostimme aus Faures eigener Version um eine bzw. zwei Oktaven nach oben versetzt wurden. Die Violastimme folgt, wo immer muglich, Faures Cellostimme, die sich im Original haufig in den mittleren und oberen Registern des Cellos bewegt und sich fur eine Ausfuhrung auf der Viola geradezu anbietet. Die Streicher werden feststellen, wie akribisch Faure die Phrasierung im Hinblick auf die Bogenfuhrung setzt; dieser Zusammenhang war aufgrund der Ungenauigkeit der fruheren Ausgaben bislang nicht ersichtlich.
