The initial and prevailing theme is from the song "Det Fagreste Træ" with lyrics by Ursula Andkjær Olsen and music by me. To this song I also owe the title of the piece. The melody in bar 187-217 is quoted from a pearl diver song from Bahrain, recorded by the composer and music ethnologist Poul Rovsing-Olsen. Peter Bruun

Fazıl Say’s “Four Cities” Sonata can be considered as a journey through four cities of Anatolia. This work has taken its inspiration from Fazıl Say’s memories and events of his life. Bodrum is well known as a city greatly frequented by tourists which sets it apart from the other three locations. These four very different cities with their individual cultures have been selected from the nearly 2000-km wide expanse of Anatolia.

for saxofon, cello og piano Duration ca. 20 min. Programme Note DELTA for saxophone, cello and piano (2005) I. EUFONIA – EUFORIA II. NOSTALGIA III. MALINCONIA Some of my works are created in several stages, where an earlier work or movement are reborn or recomposed as part of a new work. For instance “Suite for Martin” (1967) for saxophone, amplified accordion and prepared piano - used in a Danish documentary film “Kongens Enghave” - was rearranged by me in 2004 in a new instrumentation for saxophone, cello and piano, and named MELANCOLIA (duration 12 minutes), which became the third movement (with the title MALINCONIA) in an enlarged version from 2005 with the title DELTA (duration around 20 minutes). A delta is, be nature, moving outwards or rather downwards, downstream. This movement is characteristic for all three works mentioned. EUFONIA. In the first movement of DELTA the music changes from the light hearted and harmonious towards a darker sound. In the second movement, NOSTALGIA, this darker colour is intensified, dominating the whole movement. MALINCONIA, the third and last movement, completes the direction downwards – during six shorter sections – going towards a black edged pessimism (and a “black sound”). Per Nørgård (2005)

Programme note: Alloy III for Violin, Cello, Classical Accordion, and two Kokles The instruments of this quintet are very different in appearance and in the way of playing as well as tone production: strings to be bowed, strings to be plucked confronted with the airborne tone of the Accordion. The origins and the traditions of the instruments are also very diversified reaching from traditional folkmusic (the Kokle) and popular music (the Accordion) to art music of the classical tradition (the Violin and Cello). Acknoledging these references and connotations I refrain nevertheless from an obvious ‘casting’ of the instruments, since I have always been fascinated by the less evident, by transitions and gradual displacement, by the intangible places between one and the other. I search for this ‘terrain vague’ of fruitfull incertainty and permanent genesis. To arrive there, I have in this piece created a musical expression, which makes hidden relations and unexplored sonorous paths come forward between the different sound worlds of the instruments. Bringing together these musical substances, I look for something deeper than just common sounds: a fresh musical place. And the lively and bright sound world that emerges form this instrumental and textural ’in-between’ I associate to alloys, in particular the silvery amalgamations of mercury. The work was composed to musicians from the Latvian ensmble Altera Veritas and of Ensemble Aleph (France) as a part of the project European Instrumental Laboratory. Niels Rosing-Schow

The nine sonatas for cello and basso continuo by Antonio Vivaldi are among the most famous cello works of the Baroque era. Thanks to their moderate technical demands, the pieces are an integral part of music lessons as well as of private music-making.But even for the professional early music scene, they form a focus of the cello repertoire. The new edition of the Wiener Urtext Edition serves the needs and demands of all three target groups alike, providing a reliable musical text which is no longer based on the unauthorized first Paris edition by Le Clerc & Boivin but on a copy from Naples revised by Vivaldi himself as well as on two other manuscripts associated with the composer from the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris and the music library of the Counts of Schönborn at Wiesentheid.Apart from the solo part, the edition comprises a piano (harpsichord) score with realized basso continuo which should be very welcome to pupils and amateurs. An unrealized basso continuo part has been added for the professional continuo player in which the figures of the first Paris edition has been included. Even if they do not trace back to Vivaldi himself, they bear witness to the contemporary basso continuo practice and can serve as a ‘guide’ for the execution of Vivaldi’s unfigured bass part. More detailed information on the performance practice is provided in the notes on interpretation by Gerhart Darmstadt which are based on contemporary sources.
