Sleepers Wake - Score Only by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Arranged by Soon Hee Newbold. For strings. FJH Developing Strings. Score only. Full set (score and parts) also available: ST6198. Grade 2. Score. Composed 2009. Published by The FJH Music Company Inc (FJ.ST6198S). Sleepers Wake also known as Bach's Cantata 140 or Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, is a chorale cantata originally written for horn 2 oboes, taille (substituted with English horn today), strings, and choir. The theme we most associate with Sleepers Wake from the 4th movement which features the tenors and is one of Bach's most famous melodies. He went on to transcribe this movement for Organ later published in a separate collection called the Schubler Chorales in the 1740's. About FJH Developing Strings Slightly more advanced than Beginning Strings, this series begins to involve more position work and a slightly more complex rhythmic figures. Rehearsal piano is often provided. Ideal for middle school and smaller high school programs. Grade 2 - 2.5

Sleep Song - Medium voice by Elizabeth Alexander. For Vocal Solo (Medium voice and piano). Art Song. Children. Moderately Easy. Text language: English. Duration 4 minutes. Published by Seafarer Press (SF.SEA-061-01). With Text language: English. Children. While watching a beloved child slumber, a parent contemplates those things that sleep brings: a release from the drama of the day, deep cycles of breath, and complete authenticity.Composer's Note: The small, disciplined form of "Sleep Song" - nine 9-syllable lines - is one which my friend and poet Ann Silsbee explored throughout her intimate book, "Naming the Disappeared." What captured my musical imagination was the rhythm of breathing reflected in this poem, a rhythm of which singers are viscerally aware. What captured my spirit was nearly the same thing: the beauty, power and vulnerability of breath itself, that most basic sign of life.Range: c'-f".
