Class of 1915 was written in celebration of the dual centenaries of Reed College and Arnold Schoenberg's celebrated work, Pierrot Lunaire. Though the work shares the same instrumentation, which has become popular among new music ensembles, Schiff's work is a celebration of popular song and dance styles from the mid-1910's arranged in a suite that makes an ideal curtain-raiser for Pierrot concerts. New product for the week of Sept 10th, 2012.

En Rouge et Noir means literally in red and black. While this can be interpreted many ways, this 17 minute work by renowned Third Stream composer David Baker explores both red-hot and black influences in three jazz-steeped movements: swing, jazz waltz, and bebop. The flutist doubles on alto flute and the piano part includes the entire solo line. While the bass part is fully notated, the drums are written jazz chart style. Available for sale for the first time in 2012. New product for the week of Sept 10th, 2012.

'Sonata for Flute and Piano, Opus 17' is written in a late Romantic style. The first movement is constructed essentially in traditional sonata-allegro form, with an extensive coda augmenting the new material heard in the development. The passionate second movement opens with a lyrical theme that culminates into a free cadenza at the end. The third movement is written in theme and variation form. Of importance, the fifth variation is written as a four-part fugue and the final variation culminates by joining the theme of the third movement with that of the first. This work not only adds to the existing repertoire of intermediate-advanced flute music, but also teaches young people about traditional classical forms such as the rondo, theme and variations and the fugue. For the history of the composition please see Jim Kelsey's biography. Suitable for teaching studios, secondary schools, colleges and conservatories.

American folk music is just right for flute. From the lyrical beauty of Amazing Grace and Shenandoah to the rollicking good fun of Lane County Bachelor and Old Joe Clark, these 34 tunes will keep you playing – and keep your listeners dancing and singing. All of the tunes can be played on flute alone, or with piano, guitar, or any chord instrument. Chord symbols are included with the music. The lyrics are included in the book. Lyrics can help with learning rhythm, or with memorization of the melody. They allow the player to sing as well as play, or to invite others to sing along. Besides, they are fun. The Play-Along CD includes two sections. The first section of the CD includes all of the tunes, with Jessica Walsh on flute and Andrew D. Gordon on piano. The second section is a Play-Along, featuring wonderful piano accompaniments arranged by Anita Briggs. The music notation for the piano accompaniments is in PDF format and is available for download.

One of the most prolific and influential composers of the Baroque era, Vivaldi is especially noted for his compositions for violin, e.g., The Four Seasons. He was equally at home in composing for other instruments, however, including the flute, recorder, and bassoon. This volume comprises a selection of his finest compositions for wind instruments, including six concertos for flute and strings: Concerto No. 1 in F Major, "The Tempest" (RV 433); Concerto No. 2 in G Minor, "Night" (RV 439); Concerto No. 3 in D Major, "The Bullfinch" (RV 428); Concerto No. 4 in G Major (RV 435); Concerto No. 5 in F Major (RV 434); and Concerto No. 6 in G Major (RV 437). Also here are four "related" concertos: Concerto No. 1b, variant (RV 570) for Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, and Strings; Concerto No. 2c, variant (RV 501) for Bassoon and Strings; Concerto RV 422 for (Soprano) Recorder in F Minor; and Concerto RV 444 for Sopranino Recorder in C Major. Musicians and music lovers will appreciate this convenient compilation of rewarding works by the Italian master, edited and with an introduction by Italian Baroque music expert Eleanor Selfridge-Field Dover Original.

The stimulus for this work, composed in 1924, was given by the French flautist Louis Fleury, who also gave the first performance of the work. As suggested by the title, the four single movements are dedicated to particular flautists, yet not real people but imaginary ones in mythology, religion and literature. “Pan”, “Tityre”, “Krishna” and “Monsieur de la Péjaudie” (a character in a novel by Henri de Régnier) are the individual titles in the composition, which is a loose type of Sonatine. The specific cast of the pieces is given by the sophisticated rhythm and striking harmony. It is fitting that this charming work has recently been enjoying increasing popularity.

This overture is about the only work by Hamish MacCunn which is still performed, although he wrote operas, vocal, choral, and instrumental music as well as other orchestral works. It has a distinctly Scottish flavour and was used as the theme music to the BBC television series "Sutherland's Law" back in the 1970s.
