Buxtehude's organ music already fascinated J. S. Bach – and generations of organists ever since. Schott's urtext edition of his complete organ oeuvre in the renowned series 'Masters of the North German Organ School' is based on the sources, taking the latest findings of the Buxtehude research into account. Unlike all previous Buxtehude editions, this new edition by Claudia Schumacher follows the rhythm notation of the original, i.e. the tablature, thus providing for the first time the authentic version which enables the player to interpret the works in a differentiated manner. Volumes 3 and 4 contain a total of 48 chorale arrangements in alphabetical order of the initials of the chorales: Vol. 3 contains 26 pieces (A-L), Vol. 4 22 arrangements (M-W).

This volume devised by Martin Weyer contains organ music of easy to medium technical difficulty for use at communion. The broad range of styles encompasses Johann Sebastian Bach and early Classical works through to the late Romantic period. The Anhang of Kochel's catalogue is full of pieces that for more than a century after his death were thought to be his work; the Muller sonata, a very effective piece on both fortepiano and clavichord, is still suspected of containing some elements of original Mozart in it, and deserves to be rescued from oblivion in this Mozart anniversary year.

La Montanari has a five-movement plan with a 'double' finale: a finale of normal length is followed by a miniature second finale, like coffee following a dessert. The model for this arrangement may have been the Giga-Gavotta sequence that occurs quite often in chamber sonatas. In the preface of his Idee per camera Valentini tells performers that if they find a work too difficult or too long they may reduce the number of fast movement to two. This is probably the first-ever critical edition of a Valentini violin sonata to be placed in public circulation.
