From its beginnings in 17th-century Turkey to its position today as the top name in cymbals for drummers and percussionists playing every type of music in every corner of the word, the Zildjian company has traveled a unique path. The journey started with the founder, Avedis Zildjian, an Armenian alchemist whose quest to create gold by combining base metals resulted in an alloy of copper, tin, and traces of silver that achieved world renown, thanks to its unique sound qualities. Fourteen generations later, Zildjian is officially recognized as the oldest continually family-owned business in America. The story of Avedis and his legacy is told in Zildjian: A History of the Legendary Cymbal Makers. Newly updated and filled with never-before-seen photos, memorabilia, and recollections from legendary drummers, this book tells the exciting story of the world's most popular cymbal company. Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Max Roach, Ringo Starr, Charlie Watts, Dennis Chambers, and Steve Gadd are among the many great innovators who have crashed, splashed, choked, gonged, and ridden Zildjians to make music history on some of the most ground-breaking recordings of this century. See what these and other stars as well as the Zildjian family today have to say about these premium cymbals and their rich history.

Today's drummer is expected to have developed limb coordination to a degree that would have been thought unachievable a few short years ago. This text presents an effective method of dealing with the mastery of drum set coordination by breaking it down into four sections: 1) Ride Cymbal - Right hand; 2) Snare Drum - Left hand; 3) Bass Drum - Right foot; 4) Hi-hat - Left foot. A "vision quest" is a period of spiritual seeking among certain Native American peoples. It is a religious custom in which people climb to remote sites to fast, pray and commune with nature. Individuals may pray to each of the four directions, seeking certain benefits from each. This four-movement original work illustrates a prayer by David Dillon, which he used on his own vision quest. The movements use recurring but evolving themes, reflecting each petition of the prayer. A myriad of percussion instruments enhance the mystical quality of the music. The movements are entitled: I. I pray to the West which gives us rest and reflection; II. I pray to the North which gives us patience and purity; III. I pray to the East which gives us energy and emotions; IV. I pray to the South which gives us discipline and direction. Percussion parts include: Shaker (Maraca or Rattle), 2 Small Stones, Ankle Bells, Chime Tree/Mark Tree, Finger Cymbals, Whip Crack (without spring mechanism).
