Joaquin Turina (1882-1949) along with Granados, Albeniz and Manuel de Falla, was a defining voice in Spanish music. The Sinfonia Sevillana was composed in 1920 and appeared almost simultaneously with another orchestral masterpiece, the Danzas fantasticas. Both pieces are dedicated to the Spanish poet Jose Mas. The Sinfonia Sevillana, is a masterful portrait of Turina's home city. Its three movements beautifully evoke the Sevillan countryside, displaying the city in a wide range of moods and vibrant colors.

The Russian Easter Overture is a symphonic overture by the renowned Russian teacher and composer Nicolaj Rimskij-Korsakov (1844-1908), especially well-known for his skills in orchestration. Composed between August 1887 and April 1988, he dedicated the work to the memory of Modest Mussorgskij and Alexander Borodin. In order to recount the passage of time from the Passion on Saturday and Christ's Resurrection the next day, the composer drew inspiration from orthodox church liturgies.

Ottorino Ottorino Respighi (1879 - 1936) had already begun to attract international attention for his orchestral tone poem Fontane di Roma (Fountains of Rome) (1917) when he wrote his Ballata della Gnomidi, a grotesque orchestral work that was destined to remain virtually unknown. This transcription of the symphonic poem, made by Jose Schyns, became one of the highlights at the Kerkrade WMC in 2005.

In Metamorphoseon, the composer varies the same theme in 12 steps (modi). This is a magnificent work in a beautiful transcription by Matty Cilissen.

Franz Schreker was an important representative of the 'Wiener Moderne' and one of the most successful opera composers at the beginning of the 20th century. To conclude his studies at the Vienna Conservatory he set Psalm 116 for women's choir and orchestra (1900) and dedicated to his 'beloved teacher Robert Fuchs, in reverence.' Fuchs, the highly respected composition teacher, was a close friend of Johannes Brahms and a champion of Brahms's romantic classicism. Thus, Schreker's psalm setting closely follows the tonal language of Brahms. In 1901 Psalm 116 was first performed in a concert of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna, and was first published in the same year by the Viennese publisher Adolf Robitschek. The scoring of the psalm is identical with that of Brahms's Deutsches Requiem, which would suggest and facilitate a performance of both these on the same concert program.

Thorpe now makes available Vaughan Williams' work for chorus and orchestra as a full choral score with piano reduction. Using the words of the poem "Darest thou now, O soul" from Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, Vaughan Williams composed Toward the Unknown Region in 1906. The work was first performed in October of 1907 in Leeds Town Hall as part of the Leeds Triennial Music Festival, with Vaughan Williams himself conducting. Dedicated to his sister-in-law, Toward the Unknown Region put Vaughan Williams on the map as a new and important voice in English music.
