10 Ricercari (1588) Canto & Tenor String Instrument - Score by F. Guami. For AT Recorders; TB Viols; or Violin and Viola. Recorder Duets, String Duets. Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance. Score. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMIM03). Francesco Guami was born in Lucca in about 1544, and died there in 1601 or 1602. He worked as a sackbut player at the court chapel in Munich from 1568 to 1580 under Lassus, and afterwards held the position of maestro di cappella in various places in Germany and Italy, finally returning to his birthplace in 1598. As a composer he seems to have been somewhat overshadowed by his more famous brother Gioseffo (a prolific composer of instrumental canzoni, madrigals and motets), but he did publish some books of madrigals as well as the duos found here. These rather demanding pieces are similar to the duos of Lassus in style and quality, especially in the way that they gradually build up to a rhythmic climax. - BT. About Italian Instrumental Music of the Renaissance These pieces are primarily for 2 or 3 instruments. Playable on recorders, viols - and some on crumhorns. Primarily available with just score - although later editions include parts.

12 Trio Sonatas, Volume 1, No 1 to 3 - Score and Parts by Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713). For ATB Recorders. Recorder Trios. 3 - Moderate. Score and Parts. Published by Avondale Press (MM.AVP0114). Between 1681 and 1694, forty-eight trio sonatas by Arcangelo Corelli for two violins and basso continuo were published. These were widely copied and re-printed, and established his reputation throughout Europe. Many contemporary transcriptions were made for other instrumental combinations, including several for flutes (i.e., recorders). In the present arrangements, the violin parts are assigned to alto and tenor recorders, and the continuo part to a bass recorder. Though little music was composed specifically for recorder ensembles in the baroque era, there is evidence that they did exist. It is supposed that they played music originally written for other instruments. So it is quite likely that recorder ensembles were playing Corelli trio sonatas in the 1700s, and it is not inauthentic to continue this tradition today. Volume 1, numbers 1 to 3, 16pg score and parts.

22 Madrigals, Venice 1536 (highly varied pieces) - Score by Verdelot. For various instruments (ATTB). Recorder Quartets. The Italian Madrigal. Score. Published by London Pro Musica (MM.LPMMA03). Philippe Verdelot (? - 1552) was one of several non-Italian composers who settled in Italy and dominated the early development of the madrigal. He published nine volumes of madrigals, and his church music (Masses and motets) was published in anthologies all over Europe. Though many of his 4-part madrigals are chordal and song-like, as are Arcadelt's, he sometimes wrote in a more flowing, imitative style, as in the fine Madonna il tuo bel viso (included here). He also developed 5-part writing, varying the music with delicate contrasts of texture and careful attention to individual words or phrases, or enjoying the rich sonority of multiple low voices. This book contains all of the pieces from his 1536 edition. Includes preface, editorial and performance notes as well as complete text with English translations. About The Italian Madrigal From 1520 until the end of the 16th century, the madrigal was the focus of all that was new and exciting in Italian music. The new style and techniques developed then were imitated in many countries. De Lassus, da Rore, Ruffo & others are included in this series.
