Roll 'Em by Benny Goodman. Arranged by Alan Glasscock. For big band. Swing. Medium. Full score and set of parts. Published by Lush Life (JL.LL-1142). Roll 'Em was a hugely popular number for the Goodman band, and its infectious boogie feel will have dancers flocking to the the floor. Our version is true to the Goodman original, with a couple of modifiactions. The brass has been augmented up to 8 and the piano solo passage has been written in conventional 12-bar form, rather than a mix of 12 and 10 found in the origianal. Whilst the Piano solo is ad-lib, the other solos (Clarinet & Trumpet) are fully written out, though your players can improvise from the chords provided if they prefer. Alan Glasscock has done a teriffic job with this chart, and the articulations and phrasing marks on the parts will enable your players to produce an authentic sound. The reeds are written for Clarinet, 2 Altos & 2 Tenors, with no sax doubles. Trumpets 1-4: D6, Bb5, Bb5, Bb5 Trombones 1-4: A4, Ab4, Ab4, Ab4.

Jukebox Saturday Night by Glenn Miller. Arranged by Alan Glasscock. For big band with vocal quartet [SATB]. Swing. Difficult. Full score and set of parts. Published by Lush Life (JL.LL-2127). This is a transcription of Glenn Miller's 'Jukebox Saturday Night', scored for big band and a 5 piece vocal group (Girl & 4 Boys). It is as played by Miller, except that the full 10 measure band introduction has been included instead of the studio recordings' 4 measure effort (imposed because the complete chart couldn't fit onto a single 78 rpm record). Our only alteration is that Tex Beneke's vocal line has been moved into the vocal group and the 5th sax voice has been added back instead. There are no sax doubles and the vocal keys are Eb & G. Vocal keys: Eb and G.

Chloe by Ted Heath. Arranged by Alan Glasscock. For big band. Swing. Advanced. Full score and set of parts. Published by Lush Life (JL.LLG-1213). Chloe was originally a chart made famous by the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, thanks to a stunning arangement by Bill Finegan. Structurally and harmonically it was probably ahead of its time, and certainly showed the sort of direction that the Sauter Finegan band was set to take later on. This is a transcription of the Ted Heath version which is essentially the same as the Dorsey / Finegan chart. There are solo features for baritone, piano, trumpet and tenor, with some great trombone and sax passages. The second alto doubles clarinet, to lead over the saxes in their soli and to solo over the band in the final chorus. All of the as-played solos are written out, though your tenor, trumpet & piano players can improvise from the chords if they wish. This is quite an exacting chart to play. Dynamics are crucial and the brass ranges are fairly high, hence this has been graded as advanced. Ranges: Trumpets 1-4 : Eb6, D6, G#5, G5 Trombones 1-4 : C5, A4, Ab4, E4.

L-O-V-E by Natalie Cole. Arranged by Myles Collins. For big band with female vocal. Swing. Medium. Full score and set of parts. Published by Lush Life (JL.LLM-2138). This chart is an adaptation Natalie Cole's L-O-V-E (LOVE) (L is for the way you look at me...) which sticks very closely to her version. It is a medium to up-tempo swing chart, opening in the key of G with rhythm and vocal, the trombones then join, with a muted trumpet adding little fills, then onto a muted trumpet solo chorus backed by saxes and trombones. A quick modulation to Ab brings the vocal back in, with the whole band backing and the chart builds and builds to a rousing climax. Natalie's vocal line in the Ab section is her interpretation of the melody, and rises to F with a final high Ab flourish. If your vocalist chooses to stay with the original vocal line, she will only need to reach C, giving the chart a 1 octave vocal range. There are no sax doubles. Vocal key: G to Ab Female Vocal: C#4 - F5 (11 steps as written).

Splanky is one of the great tracks from the Basie band of the 1950s, and one of a series written and arranged for the band by Neal Hefti to be found on The Atomic Mr Basie album. This is the original arrangement and not a transcription , and includes fully written out Tenor and Piano solos. There is not a full score with this arrangement, though a Conductor lead sheet is included. A great tune, and classic Basie! Ranges: Trumpets 1-4 Db6, G5, Eb5, Gb5 Trombones 1-4 Ab4, Fb4, Db4, F4.

Begin The Beguine by The Andrews Sisters. Arranged by Vic Schoen. For big band with female vocal trio. Dixieland/Swing. Medium. Full score and set of parts. Published by Jazz Lines Publications (JL.JLP-9050). This is Vic Schoen's great arrangement of Begin the Beguine that was done for the unstoppable Andrews Sisters. The sisters had a major hit with this arrangement in 1939. The chart opens in a Dixieland 2 feel and stays there until measure 51 where it changes to a swing feel in 4. The vocal parts have been written out as-played and is trio throughout except for a 16 measure solo written on voice 2. Tenor saxophone 1 is on clarinet throughout (though the part can be played on tenor if need be). As is the case with most of the Andrews Sisters arrangements, there are great band fills in between vocal phrases. The vocal key starts in Bb then modulates to G then finishes up in Ab.

Lover, Come Back To Me by As Written For Frank Sinatra with Count Basie. Arranged by Billy Byers. For Big Band with Male Vocal. Swing. Difficult. Full score and set of parts. Published by Jazz Lines Publications (JL.JLP-9082). Here is a Billy Byers chart that was arranged for the 'Sinatra Live at the Sands' performance and recording with the Count Basie Orchestra. However, this arrangement was not used for that performance. We know it was written for that show as the date written on the manuscript is June 21, 1965, which corresponds to dates on other manuscripts that were used (Where Or When is marked June 20, 1965). And, Byers indicated that is was for 'Basie-Sinatra.' This arrangement has been produced directly from the original manuscript. This bluesy chart set in a medium swing tempo features some very nice triplet figures throughout. Trombones open with plungers and go back to them at the end of the arrangement. Similar to the other Sands arrangements there was an optional 5th trumpet part written for Harry 'Sweets' Edison that just included chord changes for background fills behind the vocal. There are no saxophone doubles or solos. The vocal key is F throughout. Ranges: Trumpet 1 to D6; Trombone 1 to C5 (optional) or A4; Vocal Key: F.

On The Road To Mandalay (Score) edited by Rob DuBoff and Jeffrey Sultanof. Arranged by Billy Byers. For big band. Recorded by Count Basie. Swing. Medium Difficult. Score. Published by Jazz Lines Publications (JL.JLP-8127S). In 1963 Count Basie recorded an album of Billy Byers arrangements titled 'More Hits of the 50s and 60s.' This was later re-issued as a tribute to Frank Sinatra and titled 'Frankly Speaking: Count Basie Plays the Hits of Frank Sinatra.' This song, written in 1907 by Oley Speaks, was based on a poem by Rudyard Kipling and has become a standard party due to the famous recording by Frank Sinatra on the 'Come Fly with Me' album. This arrangement features alto sax, flute (on reed 2) and trumpet playing the first part of the melody. Piano is then featured for the second half of the melody. Byers wrote this chart as a repeat and fade. An optional ending has been created in the event that you wish to perform this with a hard ending. This is a solid, swinging arrangement by the great Billy Byers, edited and engraved directly from his original score. Ranges: Trumpet 1: to F6; Trombone 1: to C5.

I Cover The Waterfront by Charlie Parker With Strings. Edited by Jeffrey Sultanof and Rob Duboff. Arranged by Ed Herzog. For studio ensemble featuring alto saxophone (Alto Saxophone Soloist, Oboe, 3 Violins, Viola, Cello, Harp, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums). Swing. Medium. Published by Jazz Lines Publications (JL.JLP-8024). This studio ensemble arrangement was written for Charlie Parker in the early 1950s. Due to the success of Parker's 1949 studio session for Verve (featuring Just Friends) there was a need to fill out a book of arrangements for touring and for another possible studio date. Several New York arrangers were contracted to provide arrangements including John Lewis, Joe Lipman, Horace Henderson, George Russell, Glenn Osser, Jimmy Mundy, and Ed Herzog, who crafted this chart on the Green/Heyman standard I Cover the Waterfront. From all appearances this arrangement was never played. In fact, many of the arrangements that made up the Charlie Parker with Strings library were never recorded nor performed. This is a very interesting arrangement and fits well within the context of the rest of the Parker with Strings book. Here's a chance to play a never-before-heard Bird with Strings arrangement!

The Late, Late Show by Nat "King" Cole. Edited by Jeffrey Sultanof and Rob Duboff. Arranged by Dave Cavanaugh. For big band (Vocal, 2 Alto Saxophones, 2 Tenor Saxophones, Baritones Saxophone, 4 Trumpets, 3 Trombones, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums). Swing. Medium Easy. Published by Jazz Lines Publications (JL.JLP-9328). Dave Cavanaugh wrote this arrangement in 1958 for a Nat King Cole recording session with what was essentially Count Basie's orchestra. The song, co-written by Roy Alfred and Dave Cavanaugh (under the pseudonym Murray Berlin) was later recorded by Count Basie and others. Originally the arrangement was written with a short, half chorus tenor sax solo during a shout section. This solo has been extended to a chorus and a half so that the arrangement plays long - and your tenor player gets to shine a little more! Ranges: Trumpet 1: to D6; Trombone 1: to Bb5.
