What Are You Doing New Year's Eve arranged by Jon Harpin. For big band with female vocal. Ballad. Medium. Full score and set of parts. Published by Lush Life (JL.LL-2116). What are you doing New Year's Eve is a beautiful seasonal ballad, arranged for Female vocal by Jon Harpin. This lovely arrangement of the Frank Loesser tune chart features some lush band voicings, with muted brass throughout. The 4th Trumpet is really a solo obligato part, noodling away behind the vocal where appropriate. The 1st Alto had a couple of bars of Clarinet double in the intro, but apart from that there are no other sax doubles. The brass ranges are very moderate, and the vocal would suit most Male or Female vocalists. The vocal key is Eb to E. The audio is courtesy of the Blue Moon Big Band. Trumpets 1-4: A5, F5, F5, E5 Trombones 1-4: F4, Eb4, C4, C4 Female vocal range: Bb3-C#5 (9 steps) Vocal key: Eb-E.

Wald-Sinfonie by Kees Vlak. For Concert Band. Original Pieces / County Scenes/Four Seasons/Sun/Light / New Year's Concert. Original Pieces. Grade 5. Score and Parts. Published by Molenaar Edition (ML.011990100). It was during his stay at Freiburg, Germany where he was attending a Music Festival of the German Band Confederation in '86, that Kees Vlak found inspiration for this romantic work. At this festival he was awarded a prize for one of his compositions. He lived in the small village of Horben, hidden among pine woods on a mountain at the border of the Black Forest. Each morning a blackbird singing in a huge pine next to the composer's window woke him up. This bird song opens the composition. The second theme paints the lake 'Titisee'. The new theme is closely linked to the hunt and played by the typical German helicon-like euphoniums. This theme interacts with the second theme and the work ends with a grand finale meant as a musical hommage to this wonderful area.

Perpetuum Mobile by Johann Strauss, Jr. (1825-1899). Arranged by M. Carros. For Concert Band. Novelties / Arrangements of Classical Pieces / New Year's Concert. Classic Arrangement. Grade 4. Score and Parts. Duration 3 minutes, 11 seconds. Published by Molenaar Edition (ML.012311080). Johann Strauss Junior wrote this 'Perpetuum Mobile' opus 257 in 1861, inspired by a grand Viennese Ball. This event had been announced as a 'Carnival Perpetuum Mobile' with non-stop dancing and music. The Strauss Brothers conducted alternately, so the music and the dancing never stopped. This composition consists of 24 variations on a theme of 8 bars, allowing a small solopart to almost all instruments. As is often the case with Johann Straui!!'s compositions, the point comes at the end. This ingenious musical satire, subtitled 'A musical Joke', immediately became the big success of the Summer Concert Season of the Strauss Orchestra in the Russian town of Pavlovsk in 1862.
