You Shouldn't Have by Christopher Jentsch. For jazz ensemble (tenor trombone feature). This edition: Trumpet range to Eb6. Jazz Standard, Ballad, Jazz. Level 4. Score and set of parts. Published by UNC Jazz Press (NC.1727). (8 Brass) This is a tenor trombone feature in a jazz standard ballad style (AABA form, key of F). The approach is lyrical and fresh. Instead of an open solo section, the improvisation is woven into a simple through-composed 2 1/2-chorus structure. Originally the tune was improvised by the composer at a solo gig. No doubles. Recorded by the University of Miami's Concert Jazz Band on Jentsch's Miami Suite CD.

Baby, Take Your Cleats Off by Christopher Jentsch. For jazz ensemble (bass trombone and bass feature). This edition: Trumpet range to G6. Jazz, Funk, Reggae. Level 4. Score and set of parts. Published by UNC Jazz Press (NC.1729). (8 Brass) This is an engaging contemporary co-feature for your bass trombone and your bass player. There is solo space and an extended written melody arranged more or less in unison for bass and bass trombone. The piece alternates between three different recurring sections and calls for a half-time funk and a reggae-hybrid feel. Improvised originally in a rehearsal by the Christopher Jentsch Trio, the last page is one of the composer's most satisfying. Additional solo space is arranged for tenor or guitar. Reed I plays soprano sax throughout. Recorded by the University of Miami's Concert Jazz Band on Jentsch's Miami Suite CD.

Tell Me Your Stories - Miami Suite Movement II by Christopher Jentsch. For jazz ensemble (soprano voice solo). This edition: Trumpet range to C6. Straight 8ths Groove, Contemporary, Jazz, ECM. Level 5. Score, vocal part and set of parts. Published by UNC Jazz Press (NC.1731). (8 Brass) Movement II is a lyrical feature for soprano voice and flugelhorn delivered with an ECM, straight-8ths groove (contemporary jazz harmony, but tonal and luscious). It is all development and improvised solos until the singer provides the exposition with two choruses of lyrics at the end of the piece. The cross-section textural writing in the flugels and woodwinds make this a V. Thematic material from other movements serve as backgrounds and counter themes. Like all the movements in the Miami Suite, Tell Me Your Stories is doubly designed to be a stand-alone piece or to serve as the second movement. Reed I - Alto Sax/Flute, Reed II - Soprano Sax, Reed III/IV - Clarinet/Tenor, Reed V - Bass Clarinet/Clarinet/Bari. Trumpets/Flugelhorns. Recorded by the University of Miami's Concert Jazz Band on Jentsch's Miami Suite CD.

Chaos Theory by Dan Cavanagh. For jazz ensemble (trombone and tenor saxophone solos). This edition: Trumpet range to C6. Up Tempo Swing, Jazz. Level 5. Score and set of parts. Published by UNC Jazz Press (NC.1829). (8 Brass, alto sax doubles on soprano) Uptempo Swing, q-240. This exciting piece explores changes from stability to instability and back to stability again. Quick, explosive motifs in the beginning of the piece give way to a developing octatonic melody. A lush trombone solo out of time gives way to percolating backgrounds that build over time. Solo space for tenor sax comes next with a much more aggressive character. The piece ends with solo contemplative piano drawn from ideas found earlier in the piece.
