Sierra Nevada by Mike Bogle. For jazz ensemble. This edition: Trumpet range to G6. Afro-Cuban, Latin, Salsa Groove, Jazz. Level 5. Score and set of parts. Published by UNC Jazz Press (NC.117). (10 Brass) (Level 5) Commissioned by the Weatherford College jazz band, Weatherford, TX, and commemorating the UNT One O'Clock Lab Band's spring tour to the Reno Jazz Festival in 1994, this is a great Latin chart with a songo/salsa groove. It plays down easily and includes solos for trombone (or trumpet), tenor sax, drums, and optional Latin percussion. Easy, galloping, songo feel will have people dancing in the aisles if it's in their blood. Excellent opportunity for percussionists to stretch out on timbales or congas, but also works well with drumset only.
