John 1 by K.A. Young. For Choral. Sacred, Christian, 21st Century. Intermediate. Octavo. Published by K.A. Young (S0.1769). John 1 is a setting of the enigmatic Logos verses in, oddly enough, John 1. Its slow tempo and text declamation, along with glimmering seconds provide both emotional and intellectual illumination for the text. This is a great piece for advanced high school choirs, and chamber choirs. About Digital Print Sheet Music Digital Print is printable sheet music available anytime, anywhere. Scènes de café, for violin and piano (VIOLIN PART) by Christopher A. Sforza. For Violin. 21st Century. Intermediate. Individual Part. Published by Christopher A. Sforza (S0.5075). "Scènes de café, or ""Scenes from the Café"", takes its name as a parody of the Scène de ballet, Op. 100 of Charles Auguste de Beriot. The title as well as composition is also a reference to Paul Schoenfield's Café Music, for piano trio. The work began its early life as a chanson for voice and piano inspired by the book ""A Year in the Merde"" by Stephen Clarke. This humorous novel discusses the escapades of young British man working in Paris, his clash of cultures, and search for love. The composition was recently unearthed and thoroughly recomposed for Mme Bakkegard, for whom the definitive version is dedicated to. Scènes de café emulates my feelings and impressions of busy life in Paris, France. When you stroll down the Champs-Élysées or stop for an espresso, the air is filled with life and vitality. All around you people are going about their daily activities freely enjoying la vie en rose. Every person that you may meet has a different story to tell and every café that you may sit at has a completely different perspective. Scènes de café is broken up into four sections; Moderato con tristezza, Tempo di valse capriccioso, Meno mosso ma non troppo, and Tempo di tango appassionato. Each vignette tells a different story, a different perspective from a different set of characters. For the most part, it is up to the listener to paint their own individual narrative. My own attitude on the action follows something like this: The Moderato con tristezza recounts a person sitting all alone in a corner of a dimly lit café; it is early morning, and he or she is either feeling a sense of longing or regret. As the day progresses and hundreds of people walk through the streets of Paris, the Tempo di valse capriccioso encompasses their busy Bohemian lifestyle. As both the late afternoon approaches and the Meno mosso ma non troppo much of the action begins to wind down as many people take naps or relax in the sun. Perhaps even the corps de ballet has just been let out from the Opéra Garnier. Finally, as night falls, Paris transforms into La Ville-Lumière, the City of Lights. We are at the Moulin Rouge or another night club dancing sensually and hypnotically to the Tempo di tango appassionato until the sun rises in the morning and we repeat the whole process once more. ". Czysta Magia by Douglas DaSilva. For Violin. Instructional, Secular, 20th Century, World, 21st Century. Advanced Intermediate. Solo Part, Score. Burke & Bagley #BB104. Published by Burke & Bagley (S0.10459). The title CZYSTA MAGIA (Pure Magic) is an expression of the magic that is in the fingers and soul of Katarzyna Bryla for whom this piece is dedicated! One only has to listen to her play to realize the truth of this! Ms. Bryla told be to write a piece as difficult as I like. I kept this in mind while composing and the idea gave me a liberating sense that I could challenge her as a player; but never did I attempt to make any of this more difficult than the music demands. Hopefully, I've been able to tap into something magic in this piece. I've used my favorite Brazilian rhythm: the Baiao and added a third beat to it making it a Valsa-Baiao. CZYSTA MAGIA I has a very simple ascending tetrachord melodic line with some details on expressive technique which should (mostly quietly) require an exploration of sounds to find the magic spell that Is being conjured here. CZYSTA MAGIA II is in Brazilian choro form: I've taken liberties with the repeats; but have kept the form AABBACCA. It is the spell of part I put into action! Valentine by Fred Hersch. For Piano. Modern. Sheet Music. Composed 2001. Duration circa 2.5 minutes. Published by Edition Peters (PE.P68328). ISBN 979-0-3007-5763-6. Modern. Valentine' was composed on Valentine's Day in 2001 at The MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, NH. At the time, I was writing jazz tunes with the aid of a kitchen timer, and this was completed in sketch form in about 20 minutes. I then fashioned a lead sheet and began playing the piece in concerts, usually as an encore. It received a Grammy nomination for Best Instrumental Composition in 2008. As I performed the piece, my interpretations became more consistent - even though there is a free improvisatory introduction and improvisation after the melody and before the recapitulation (both of them written out here in abbreviated form). I have had many requests from non-improvising pianists for a piano arrangement, so I created this arrangement in 2010. - Fred Hersch A pianist and composer whose work has received nearly universal acclaim in a career spanning over 25 years, Fred Hersch is among the foremost creative musicians in the world today. Described as "a master who plays it his way" by The New York Times, Hersch has released more than twenty albums as a solo artist or bandleader, two of which were nominated for Grammy awards for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance. He was the recipient of a 2003 Guggenheim Fellowship in composition and has received grants from both The National Endowment for the Arts and Meet the Composer as well as commissions from The Doris Duke Foundation and the Irwin S. Gilmore Foundation, among many others. He has also been awarded five composition residencies at The MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, NH, and a Rockefeller Fellowship for a residency at the Bellagio Center and Foundation in Lake Como, Italy. He has collaborated with an extraordinary range of major artists in both the jazz and classical worlds, including Joe Henderson, Stan Getz, Charlie Haden, Gary Burton, Dawn Upshaw, Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg, Jeffrey Kahane, Christopher O'Riley, Renee Fleming, and dozens of others.
