The Bohemian Christmas masses are a typical product from the end of the 18th century. Jan Jakub Ryba's Pastoral Mass from 1796 is a prototype of this genre. It was set in Czechoslovakian and filled with a conscious simple, folk-like musicality, which every villager in Ryba's time could understand. Correspondingly, Ryba's work became so popular that in the course of time-according to Milan Kuna, the editor of the Mass-"it was felt to be a symbol of Czechoslovakian Christmas." In addition to the original text the music also includes a German singing text.

Let all the gates be raised by Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767). Edited by Traugott Fedtke / Klaus Hofmann. Arranged by Traugott Fedtke. The Advent cantata Machet die Tore weit has long been one of the most frequently performed of Telemann's sacred works. Among the copies of this cantata which have been handed down is a copy by J. S. Bach which bears testimony to the high respect he paid to his then more celebrated colleague from Hamburg: It is a copy of the score in the hand of the Thomaskantor which was made for a performance in Leipzig on Avent Sunday in 1734 (therefore during the same period as the first performance of Bach's Christmas Oratorio). Of the four solo singers the soprano and bass, each of whom has an aria, are indispensable. The brief alto solos in the opening chorus can be sung by a member of the choir, and the tenor recitative can be sung by the soprano soloist.

Canon and Gigue in D major, T 337 by Johann Pachelbel (1653-1706). For 3 violins, continuo. This edition: Paperback. Original Works, Canons/Fugues. Baroque Period; Weddings, German, Film/TV. Study Score. 18 pages. Published by Serenissima (SA.40802). ISBN 9781608740802. Baroque Period; Weddings, German, Film/TV. 7.44 x 9.69 inches. Johann Pachelbel's beloved Canon, the first movement of the Canon and Gigue in D major, was completely unknown until its publication in a 1918 article in the German periodical Archiv fur Musikwissenschaft. The first complete score and parts, edited by Max Seiffert, appeared 11 years later. Though receiving some attention, the work only rocketed to fame in the 1970s in the wake of a recording made by the French conductor Jean-Francois Paillard. In recent years, Seiffert's edition has come under fire due to his his fairly liberal addition of tempi and dynamics. The problem of making a definitive score is made very challenging because the composer's manuscript is lost, and the only extant source is a 19th century copy located in the Berlin State Library. The present urtext score has no added articulations, tempi or slurs. Only dynamics have been added, as a possible suggested interpretation only.
