The Sorcerer arranged by Carl Fritsche. For big band. Funk. Easy. Published by Lush Life (JL.LL-1060). The Sorcerer is another original composition from Carl Fritsche, and is very different from most of our offerings. It is a relaxed, laid-back groove, with an ethereal, almost modal quality to it. Technically not at all difficult, though the rhythm section needs to be tight. Written solo for 1st Alto, and nice phrase exchanges and sectional interplay make The Sorcerer a really good chart to play.

Funky Blues arranged by Jack Bastow. For big band. Funk Blues. Medium Easy. Published by Jazz Lines Publications (JL.JB-1005). This is a great chart for an early high school jazz ensemble. It is based on the standard 12 bar blues progression, but written in a funk rock style. The middle section is open for solos over the blues progression. A great learning tool for both styles, as well as soloing over blues progression. High school kids will love playing this up to date chart.
