In May 2011 the third and final CD of the Volkslieder (folk song) collection by Carus and SWR2 has been released - it contains a wide variety of folk songs. The overwhelming commitment on the part of all of the artists and their enthusiasm for the folk songs brought such an abundance of first-class material to the project so that a third CD could be released. Once again, first-rate soloists, such as Angelika Kirchschlager, Christiane Oelze und Roman Trekel sing on this CD. In addition, a number of young artists and many ensembles and choirs can be heard (ranging from scorings for the traditional four-voice choir via men's or women's choir as well as a children's choir to even an historic recording by the Comedian Harmonists), who offer much variety with their many-faceted choral colors. The CD Volkslieder, Vol. 3 concludes this collection, which has presented the folk song in all of its many facets. All of the artists have approached the theme of the folk song in their own intimate way and have brought to it with their most personal interpretations of the songs. Whether an art song or from folklore, a solo song or an arrangement for choir, each approach to an interpretation of the folk song is equally valid. A song becomes a folk song if over a long period of time it remains rooted in the consciousness of the people, regardless of whether the melody, text and form undergo changes.

In 2008 the concert and opera singer Cornelius Hauptmann initiated the charitable "The Lieder project" to further singing with children. The following year the "Wiegenlieder" (lullaby) collection was published. Once again, more than 50 singers have voluntarily, without remuneration, given their voices to sing the most beautiful German folk songs. This project will be continued with two further collections of children's songs and songs for Christmas. The present collection of the most beautiful German folk songs is sung by leading concert and opera singers, choirs and children. The CDs each include an extensive booklet with colour illustrations and song texts with English translations. In January 2011 the benefit project "Lieder-Projekt" was awarded with the website www.liederprojekt.org als 'Ausgewahlter Ort 2011' [selected spot] in the challenge '365 Orte im Land der Ideen' from the German government.

Shortly after the publication of the first volume of Lore-Ley for mixed choir, we began receiving a lot of inquiries for such a collection for women's and girl's choirs. Soon, a sequel, Lore-Ley II, was published with over 130 lieder for this scoring. The Pfalzische Kurrende, under the direction of Carola Bischoff - a two-time winner of the German choral competition - has now recorded 29 of these Volkslieder (folk song) classics. Many of these arrangments by well-known contemporary composers were specially written for this collection and are recorded here for the first time. In addition to examples with classical harmony there are selections with modern elements of style, also in a light, jazzy manner. The CD should stimulate the singing of folk songs and offer choral conducters an aural impression of these choral collections already published.
