Published by Carus Verlag (CA.4060719). ISBN M-007-07322-0. With Language: Latin. Masses, Latin. The Missa in tempore belli by Joseph Haydn is an interesting work in several respecst. Firstly this setting of the Mass provides pointers to the situation of Austrian church music as it had been affected by imperial decrees. Secondly the political situation, with the imminent invasion of Austria by Napoleon's troops, had reached a crisis point which is reflected in the description of this composition as a "Mass in time of war". Last but not least, this work is the first of the group of six settings of the Latin Mass which, together with the oratorios "The Creation" and "The Seasons", form the body of Haydn's last period vocal works, and which unquestionably belong among his supreme creative achievements.

Oberon (Overture). By Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826) and Carl Maria von Weber (1786-1826). Arranged by Gerhart Drijvers. For Concert Band. Grade 5. Full score and set of parts. Duration 9:30. Published by Baton Music (BF.BM165-SET). After conquering England by triumphal performances of Der Freischutz at Covent Garden von Weber was sent a commission by the manager of The Royal Opera House Covent Garden that resulted in his new opera Oberon. The overture prepares us for the opera by working some of its main elements. Oberon's magic horn opens the way, and we hear the chivalry of Charlemagne's court, the fairy footsteps of the first aria and the clarinet intoning Oberon's aria.

La Gelosia, Cantata, VB 46 by Joseph Martin Kraus (1756-1792). Edited by Eric Gustafson. For voice and orchestra. This edition: CD containing all parts as pdf files. Bisel Classics. EParts. Text Language: English / German. VB 46. Published by Bisel Classics (BI.979-0-50179-817-9). ISBN 9790501798179. With Text Language: English / German. A4 inches. This cantata, composed in 1780, is the third in a set of four secular cantatas appearing between 1778 and 1780. Composed in Stockhom, this cantata was written for Lovisa Augusti, lead singer of the Stockholm Royal Theatre of which Kraus was Kapellmaster. No dedication is evidenced in the source material for this edition, the 1801 copy by Frederik Samuel Silverstolpe. Set to a text by Metastasio, Kraus imaginatively explores the musical rendition of the passions of jealousy and madness. Kraus' mastery of musical and literary composition is united here in a brilliant and elevated work of musical drama.

Piano Concerto in A Major K488. (Facsimile). By Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). Henle Facsimile. SMP Level 10 (Advanced). Hardcover (clothbound). 67 pages. G. Henle Verlag #HN3216. Published by G. Henle Verlag (HL.51483216). Mozart's Piano Concerto is one of his most played works. The autograph score is very well preserved and beautifully written. Mozart wrote hurriedly but always clearly, occasionally making corrections; and towards the end the writing becomes increasingly fleeting. Thanks to this high quality facsimile edition we are almost able to peer over his shoulder into the score. The publisher produced his first edition using this autograph score. It came into the possession of the collector Charles Malherbe, who in turn bequeathed it to the Paris conservatory. Today it is one of the treasures in the Grande Rserve held in the music department at the French National Library in Paris. The pianist and conductor Andrés Schiff prompted us to produce this facsimile, substantially contributing to its publication (which is why it can be offered at an attractive price for Mozart's anniversary year in 2006). His preface bears witness to his great enthusiasm for this exceptional work and manuscript. About SMP Level 10 (Advanced) Very advanced level, very difficult note reading, frequent time signature changes, virtuosic level technical facility needed.

Norma Ouverture by Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835). Arranged by P Stalmeier. For Fanfare Band. Arrangements of Classical Pieces / Arrangements of Classical Opera and Operetta Overtures. Classic Arrangement. Grade 5. Score and Parts. Published by Molenaar Edition (ML.020418070). The composer of some famous operas such as "La Sonnambula" and "The Puritans," Vincenzo Bellini (1801-1835) was largely self-taught. Although he wrote eleven operas, only "Norma" remained popular, not in the least because of its splendid lyrical arias such as Casta Diva (Chaste Goddess) and Mira, O Norma (Hear me, Norma) familiar to all music lovers. The opera "Norma" is written to a libretto by Felice Romani, based on a French melodrama by Alexandre Soumet and Louis Belmontet dealing with a story of Druids during the Roman rule. The story is neither accurate historically nor convincing dramatically, but the score is full of brilliant melodies of a type calculated to exhibit a singeris virtuosity to the utmost. The Gods order the priestess and fortune-teller Norma to give the signal of revolt against the Romans in Gaul, but she postpones this because of her relationship with the Roman proconsul Pollione with whom she secretly had two children. In the meantime, Pollione has fallen in love with the young priestess Adalgisa and Norma wants to take revenge. Finally both Norma and Pollione die on the pyre. This tragical opera in two acts was first performed at the Scala of Milan on 26 December 1831.
