Sextet by Alessandro Rolla (1757-1841). For flute, clarinet in A, bassoon, 2 violins, and viola. Winds and Strings. Unique combination. Classical. Score and set of parts. Published by Rosewood Publications (RW.RP-107). Alessandro Rolla was widely acknowledged in his time as a violin and, especially, viola virtuoso, composer and teacher, though now practically unknown. He gained some consideration as a teacher of Paganini: some of the technical innovations that Paganini later used widely, left-hand pizzicato, chromatic ascending and descending scales, the use of very high positions on violin and viola and octave passages, were first introduced by Rolla. He also taught Cesare Pugni (1802 - 1870), the prolific composer of ballet music.

The Seven Last Words of Christ (Arrangement for String Quartet Hob. XX/1B Study Score). By Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). Edited by Christin Heitmann. Henle Music Folios. Softcover. G. Henle Verlag #HN9771. Published by G. Henle Verlag (HL.51489771). At the end of the 18th century, the town of Cádiz in southern Spain provided the backdrop for a Passion to mark Christ's hour of death; its focal point was the reading and interpretation of Christ's last words. Haydn was commissioned to write short meditative music to be played alternately with the readings. Haydn composed a work for orchestra. Due to its success, the publisher commissioned Haydn to make an arrangement for string quartet. As the wind instruments double the strings for the most part, only a few changes had to be made to the string parts. We present the arrangement for string quartet based on the musical text of the Haydn Complete Edition (in preparation).

Te Deum (for Empress Marie Therese). By Franz Joseph Haydn (1732-1809). Edited by Armin Kircher. For SATB choir, flute, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 3 clarinos/trumpets, timpani, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo. This edition: Paperbound. Score available separately - see item CA.5199900. Praise and thanks. Vocal score. Language: Latin. XXIIIc:2. 24 pages. Duration 12 min. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.5199903). With Language: Latin. Praise and thanks. Haydn made two settings of the Ambrosian song of praise the Te Deum. The second of these was written for the Empress Marie Therese, to a commission from the court of Vienna; a work of Haydn's last period, it dates from 1800. Its large orchestra gives this work, which makes no use of solo singers, a particular splendour of sound skin to that of the choruses in Haydn's Creation.
