Christmas musical for 7-11 years Running time 50 minutes (KS2) approx. Three wise men (Balthazar, Melchior and Caspar) have spent many years watching the night skies, waiting for the stars to reveal a sign of great things to come. As time goes by they have grown impatient, as well as old and grey! However, one night a brand new star appears, and they begin an eventful journey which ends with the realisation that some things in life are definitely worth waiting for! Plot summary For many long years three wise men, Balthazar, Melchior and Caspar, have been watching the night sky, studying the stars and waiting for them to reveal a sign of great importance. (song – Stargazing) Not knowing quite what this sign will be, or when they’ll see it, they have become rather impatient – after all, they are not as young as they used to be! One night, however, far away in a land to the west, a young woman called Mary is visited by an angel. He tells her she will soon bear God a son – a son who will grow to be a saviour! (song – The King Of All Kings) Not longer after, the three wise men suddenly see in the sky the sign they have been waiting for! (song – A Brand New Star) As the heavens come alive with the arrival of a new star, the wise men consult the scriptures and know they must follow it to where a new king will be born. (song – Saddle Up - part 1) Meanwhile, Mary and her husband-to-be, Joseph, must also leave their home town, and travel to Bethlehem to have their names included in a new register. (song – Saddle Up - part 2) Little do they all know that their paths are soon to meet! As the star leads them westward, the wise men arrive at the palace of the cruel and selfish King Herod. He and his wife are, as usual, throwing a lavish knees-up for their many hangers-on! (song – One Big Party) The king and queen are shocked to hear that these visitors are seeking a new baby king, and worry how His birth might affect their extravagant lifestyle! Herod cunningly asks the wise men to find the baby then tell him of His whereabouts, so he too can ‘pay his respects’. He is, however, secretly planning to kill Him! In a dream the wise men are warned by angels not to return to tell Herod where the baby is, but to go straight home once they have found Him. (song – Keep It A Secret) Mary and Joseph have now arrived in Bethlehem. Unable to find a proper room, they must make do with a stable in which to settle down for the night, and as the new star comes to rest overhead, Jesus is born. (song – Heaven On Earth) Shepherds soon come to visit, bringing the gift of a lamb and worshipping by the manger in which He is lying. Then, just as He opens His eyes, Balthazar, Melchior and Caspar, guided by the star, arrive to greet the new king! They solemnly present the gifts they have brought, explaining the significance of each one. (song – Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh) Heeding the words of the angels, the wise men head straight home. Although glad to be back, they reflect on the excitement of their journey following the star, and wonder what further adventures lie ahead. But until then, they relax on their sumptuous cushions and carry on doing what they do best…..stargazing! (song – Stargazing reprise)

Nativity musical for 4-7 years (KS1) Running time 45 minutes approx. James dreams of a glamorous life as a fisherman on the great Sea of Galilee, but in reality his days are spent tending to the assorted livestock in the stable behind a small inn in Bethlehem. The arrival of lots of visitors (and donkeys) to the town one day, means that poor James has to work even harder, with no thanks from the grumpy innkeeper and his wife! However, as the events of that special night unfold, James realises that the future is brighter than he'd thought, and that dreams can indeed come true! Plot summary In the opening song (All Work, No Play), we meet James, who longs to escape his dull life tending to the animals in the stable behind an inn. The innkeeper, his wife and the maid only add to James’s woes, criticizing his work and calling him a ‘lazy good-for-nothing’! Though fed-up with their harsh words, James finds comfort in his dream of one day becoming a fisherman, like those who visit the inn after a long but thrilling day aboard their boats on the Sea of Galilee (song – A Fisherman’s Life). One morning James is told by the excited innkeeper that he needs to double his efforts around the stable, as Bethlehem is full of visitors all looking for a place to stay and to rest their donkeys after their long journeys (song – Knock! Knock! Knock!). James has to forget his day-dreaming for a while, and concentrate on seeing to all the four-legged arrivals (song – Donkey Work)! As James sleeps soundly, exhausted from his busiest day ever, the stable animals notice that the night sky seems far brighter than usual. They realise that, as the stars dance, it must be a sign that something wonderful is about to happen (song – Song Of The Stars). As the largest star settles overhead, the innkeeper ushers in a woman (who is soon to have a baby) and a man. He explains that he can only offer them the stable, as the inn is full. He roughly wakes up James, telling him to tend to the couple’s donkey. The woman and man speak kindly to James, and he knows they must be very special people indeed. As a host of angels watches over the scene, James takes the donkey and leaves the couple to have their baby in peace (song – Jesus Is Born). And the visitors just keep coming! First, some shepherds arrive with a lamb, much to the annoyance of the maid, who instructs James to stop the animal chewing her washing! Next come three royal visitors on camels (to which James must tend), with gifts for the baby. Soon the stable is full to bursting, as everyone gathers round the manger on which the baby is laid, and gives thanks for his birth (song – Kneel At The Manger). When James is invited by the woman to come closer and see the baby, he is filled with a with a feeling of hope, believing his life can change for the better and that great things lie ahead for him. We learn, as a postscript from the narrators, that James's dreams of becoming a fisherman do indeed come true. One day he is greeted from his fishing boat by a gentle young man, whose eyes James recognises as those of the baby he met in the stable many years before. The man invites James to join Him, leading him on the biggest adventure of his life! (song – Dreams Can Come True).

Nativity musical for 4-7 years (KS1) Running time 45 minutes approx. This witty yet sensitive adaptation of the traditional nativity story is a delightful reminder of the true message of Christmas. Jacob, Rebecca and Samuel are three less-than-honest market stall holders, hoping to cash-in on the large number of visitors arriving in Bethlehem. Whilst giving it the ‘hard sell’ they encounter a tired couple on a donkey, a group of excitable shepherds and three mysterious visitors from the east, and are led to a lowly stable where they experience something that will change their lives forever! Plot summary Jacob, Rebecca and Samuel are stall-holders in Bethlehem’s busy, bustling market. However, always looking to make easy money, their way of doing business is a little less-than-honest! They shamelessly sell cheap and fake items, passing them off as genuine, quality goods! One day, lots of visitors arrive in town (song – Bethlehem’s Buzzin’) and the three friends are eager to cash-in! Convinced they’ll be ‘rolling in it’ by the end of the day, (song – Business Is Booming) they give it the hard sell! After a day’s record-breaking takings, just when they think it’s time to pack up, a tired man and woman (Mary and Joseph) approach Jacob, Rebecca and Samuel, (song – A Long, Long Way) and ask if they know of a place to stay. Annoyed that the couple haven’t come to shop, the friends reply that they can lead them to a nearby inn, but will charge them to do so! As Mary is about to have a baby, they accept the offer and hand over what little money they have on arrival at the inn. However, it’s yet another dishonest trick. As the friends scarper with the money, Mary and Joseph discover there is no room at the inn, and the baby has to be born in a stable. (song – A Baby Is Born Tonight) Back at their stall, about to pack up for the second time, Rebecca notices a bright light on the hillside. This is followed by the arrival of an excited group of shepherds, whom the three friends think have come to do some late-night shopping! However, to their disappointment, the shepherds tell them of a wondrous visit they’ve had by a host of angels, who’ve told them to come to Bethlehem (song – Hurry Down The Hillside) to find a baby born in a stable. Guessing which stable they mean, the friends offer to lead the shepherds to it…for a price! The shepherds decline the offer, choosing instead to follow the star that the angels said would show them the way. About to pack up again, the stall-holders then notice three very distinguished-looking gentlemen, who look like they have a bit of money to spend! However, they are disappointed to hear that these visitors have also come looking for the baby (song – Follow A Star), and not to part with their cash! Neither will they be taking up Jacob, Rebecca and Samuel’s ‘kind’ offer to lead them to the stable for a small fee, and they leave! Curious as to why all these people are so keen to visit this baby, the friends decide to go and see for themselves. On approaching the stable they are overwhelmed with a joyful feeling, and when they are invited to kneel by the manger something changes in their hearts forever! They recognise they have led dishonest lives, and promise to change for the sake of this baby boy. They stop cheating and swindling and instead set up a new business – giving guided tours of Bethlehem to visitors, taking in all the special places and recounting the wonderful story of that momentous night! (song – A Brighter Place) And how much will they charge to do this? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

This original, new Christmas musical from Sheila Wilson takes us right back to Mary's visit from Gabriel, and culminates in a heart-warming stable tableau scene. In this creative account of the Nativity, God is 'auditioning' all the much-loved traditional characters. But there are no losers in this show (except, maybe, Herod!), and a lot of fun is had by all. Herod fancies his chance as King of Kings and isn't at all impressed when the part goes to a baby. The six new songs are catchy and vary from lullaby to rock.
