Concerto in D by Tomaso Giovanni Albinoni (1671-1751). Arranged by Erik Schultz. For Trumpet & Organ. New York Festival List. Eighth Note Publications: Erik Schultz Trumpet and Organ. Baroque. Part(s). Duration 00:06:50. Published by Eighth Note Publications (AP.81-ESTO975). ISBN 9781554722266. Baroque. Found on Erik Schultz’s critically acclaimed Music for Trumpet and Organ Volume 2, this concerto by Tommaso Albinoni is a spectacular showpiece for the piccolo trumpet. A beautiful piece of music combined with Mr. Schultz’s flawless interpretation has made this piece a standard on the various international tours of Jan Overduin and Erik Schultz. The Allegro opening provides opportunities for Mr. Schultz and Mr. Overduin’s brilliant ornaments to augment Albinoni’s writing. The melancholy Adagio allows the soaring trumpet line to entwine with the various registrations of the organ. The final Allegro is truly the highlight of the piece and Mr. Schultz has extended the final section to allow for a breathtaking finale taking the soloist to the last figure which ends on a high D concert. All the soloist’s ornaments have been carefully notated as they appear on the CD.

Concerto in A Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Arranged by Brian Slawson. Mallet Sextet. For glockenspiel, xylophone, vibraphone, 2 small marimbas (4 octaves), 4.3 octave (low A) marimba. NOTE: Two marimba players can also share a 4.3 octave (low A) marimba if instruments are limited (6 players). "Allegro" from Concerto for 4 Harpsichords & Strings (BWV 1065) mallet sextet from "Bach on Wood". Medium-Advanced. Score and parts on CD-ROM. 10 pages. Duration 2'30". Published by Tapspace Publications (TA.TSPCE-31). Harpsichord concertos were written throughout the Baroque era, particularly by J.S. Bach. This "Allegro" from Bach's Concerto for 4 Harpsichords & Strings (BWV 1065), however, is based on Vivaldi's, Concerto for 4 Violins in B minor, RV 580. For one composer to "borrow" material from another during Bach's time was considered a flattering gesture. Mallet instruments have much in common with the attack and decay properties of harpsichords, making arrangements such as this a natural choice. Slawson's orchestrations bring this piece further to life and it will make an excellent addition to the repertoire of any percussion ensemble wishing to highlight a Baroque selection for only mallet instruments. This arrangement for Concerto in A Minor has been heard worldwide on the popular CD, Bach on Wood which helped garner Brian Slawson a Grammy nomination of "Best New Classical Artist." This piece comes with a full, bound score and includes a CD-Rom containing an audio recording and all individual parts available for printing.

ART: arias & interludes (1996) for string quartet by Thomas Oboe Lee. For String Quartet. Baroque Period, Classical Period, Romantic Period, 20th Century, 21st Century. Advanced Intermediate. Score. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (S0.10585). "PROGRAM NOTE. This work, ART: arias & interludes (1996), commissioned by the Artaria Quartet of Boston, is in five movements with connecting ""solo"" interludes featuring each member of the Quartet. Each movement attempts to evoke the personality of a stock character from the Italian commedia dell'arte all'improviso. [Curtain.] The insufferable Pulcinella is musically represented by a mad polka in the first movement. According to Stravinsky, the Pulcinella he saw, which inspired his Pergolesi-kleptomania, was ""a drunken lout whose every gesture was obscene."" The teary, sad sack Pierrot is portrayed in the Largo of the second movement. Musically, it is a lament/meditation on the tension between the major and the minor triad. Harlequin is irrepressible in his hyperactive antics in the third and quasi-scherzo middle movement. He actually tries, through pantomime, to make us believe that he can fly. And he succeeds in the end only to find himself stuck up there on the ceiling!!! The ballerina Colombine dances a delirious waltz in the fourth. Dizzy from triple and quadruple pirouettes, sometimes lop-sided and almost out-of-control, she finally sits down ... In the fifth and final movement, the old goat Pantaloon shuffles across the stage in his Turkish slippers dancing to a Latin-disco beat, and drifts off into the sunset. [Curtain.] ". VIVALDI 'La Stravaganza,' vol. I: Violin Concerti, op. 4, nos. 1-2 (2 CD set) by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741). For Violin. Instrumental Solo Part and 2 CDs. Published by Music Minus One (MO.MMOCD3191). ISBN 1596152060. Antonio Vivaldi created his groundbreaking and magnificent 'La Stravaganza' to show the violin in all its diverse and extravagant forms, building on the great concerti he created with his set entitled 'L'Estro Armonico.' Utilizing numerous then-innovative violin techniques, Vivaldi created a wild excursion through the violin's capabilities and we still relish these pieces today, while significantly expanding and nurturing his slow movements as contrast to the outer movements of the concerti. This first volume (comprising the first two concerti in the set) give you a great introduction to this true Vivaldi extravaganza! This deluxe set includes a second compact disc containing a slow-speed version of the accompaniments to help you get up to speed.Includes a newly-engraved edition of the concerto on high-quality ivory paper; and a digital stereo compact disc featuring a complete performance of the concerto with orchestra and soloist, followed by a second performance minus you, the soloist; and a second compact disc containing a full-speed version of each complete concerto followed by a special -20% reduced-tempo version of the accompaniments for practice purposes. The concerti are voluminously indexed for your practice and performance convenience.

J. S. Bach: The Complete Lute Works by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Edited by Josef Eotvos. For Guitar (Classical). Solos. Chanterelle. Baroque. Advanced. Book. 128 pages. Published by Chanterelle (MB.ECH110). ISBN 9780786668199. Baroque. 9x12 inches. This edition contains J.S. Bach's lute works arranged for guitar. Most of these works were for the lute or the lute-harpsichord, a keyed instrument with gut strings that could imitate the lute with its colorful sounds. The arranger has retained the structure and character of the originals as much as possible, based mainly on consultation of the original sources, and has attempted to emulate the clarity of Bach's own manuscripts. Where works required significant alteration to be playable on guitar, the questionable parts have been reconstructed to arrive at the best solution which is the closest to the original. Fingerings have been added only where necessary. Extensive notes on the arranging process are included. Notation only.

Sinfonia From Cantata No.29 (Wir Danken Dir, Gott). By Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Arranged by Paige Dashner Long. For flute choir. Score and parts. 8 + 9 pages. Published by Falls House Press (PR.FCPDL4). Traditionally performed by solo organ, Bach's Sinfonia from Cantata No. 29 is arranged here for flute choir, with the piccolo parts closely following how an organist would perform the music. This arrangement has interesting textural and dynamic contrast, despite few dynamic markings, which Long creates through thoughtful scoring of different flute parts playing in various registers of the flute range. This arrangement was premiered in July of 2009 by the New England Conservatory Summer Metropolitan Flute Festival Orchestra in the New England Conservatory's renowned Jordan Hall. For advanced players.
