Winter from The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741). Arranged by Tim McCarrick. Orchestra. Masterworks; String Orchestra. Belwin Beginning String Orchestra. Baroque; Masterwork Arrangement. Grade 2. Conductor Score & Parts. 78 pages. Published by Belwin Publishing (AP.29651). This easy arrangement offers you multiple performance opportunities! Vivaldi’s lyrical second movement, now transposed to G major, is simple enough for the violin, viola, or cello soloist of your choice! Perform with one or more soloists! This slow movement is literally the “Calm between Storms.” Vivaldi’s text to accompany this is: Spending quiet contented days by the fire while the rain outside drenches people by the hundreds. The music presents a lovely lyrical solo melody as the pizzicato accompaniment reflects the raindrops outside. Your students will rise to the challenge and enjoy playing both the solo part and the accompaniment part! This title is available through SmartMusic. (2:00)Concert/Contest.

Wilhelm Friedemann Bach: Cantatas II by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-1784). Cantatas, Masses, German, Mass sections, Special days, Whitsun Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary. CD. 700 pages. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.8342900). Wilhelm Friedemann Bach was Director of Music in Halle from 1746 to 1764. This position was in many respects similar to that of Johann Sebastian Bach's in Leipzig. Certainly, in performing his duties Friedemann Bach largely followed the example of his father - whether in matters of organ playing, choice of repertoire or making demands of the musicians. W. F. Bach was required to perform a cantata every third week and also on all feast days. The cantatas and Mass compositions performed here for the first time are works from this era - outstanding artistic contributions to the genre of the church cantata after J. S. Bach. Under the direction of Jurgen Ochs the eight singers of the Rastatter Hofkapelle perform both the choral as well as solo passages.

Wilhelm Friedemann Bach: Concerti (FBO) by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-1784). German title: German title: Concerti /FBO. CD. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.8330400). In Wilhelm Friedemann Bach's opus orchestral music played a significant role. In spite of their difficult technical demands these works cannot be regarded merely as pieces for show. The present CD demonstrates how thoroughly they are worked out and what a high level they attain. A particular highlight of this CD is the world premiere release of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach's Flute Concerto in D. This concerto was recently discovered in 1999 among the music archives of the Berlin Singakademie in Kiev by Prof. Christoph Wolff (Harvard University). These archives were previously believed to have been lost. "This one's a gem!" Classics Today.

Wilhelm Friedemann Bach: Concerti & Trios by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-1784). German title: Concerti & Trios. CD. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.8335700). Wilhelm Friedemann Bach was considered one of the greatest organ and keyboard virtuosos of his time. He laid the foundation for this reputation in his early years, primarily during his tenure as organist at the Dresden Sophienkirche. In addition, in the 1740s several of W. F. Bach's public performances in Leipzig as a virtuoso harpsichordist are documented, while it is assumed that he participated in musical soirees in the houses of the nobility and perhaps also at the court. The compositional fruits of these performances are his brilliant harpsichord concertos, of which the concerto in G minor is recorded here for the first time. A sonata and a trio round off the still fragmentary discography of the eldest son of Bach.

Wilhelm Friedemann Bach: Clavierwerke I by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-1784). German title: Claviermusik I /Leon Berbe. CD. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.8334600). Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-84) enjoyed a reputation of being one of the most outstanding, yet at the same time, most idiosyncratic composers of his time. His work reflects his ambitious attempt to assimilate his father's legacy and to develop it further to suit the taste of his own generation. To mark the 300th anniversary of W.F. Bach's birth, Carus-Verlag is publishing a new critical complete edition of his works, together with CD recordings. The project begins with a program of keyboard music, largely comprising first recordings. Leon Berben's performances emphasize the composer's special synthesis of high-baroque complexitiy and galant, sensitive style.

Wilhelm Friedemann Bach: Cantatas I by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710-1784). German title: Kantaten I /Bachchor Mainz /Otto. Cantatas; Ascension, Christmas. CD. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.8336200). When on 12 May 1764 Wilhelm Friedemann Bach tended his resignation as Music Director and Organist at Halle a brilliant musical epoch came to an inglorious end. From the time of Samuel Scheidt the position of organist of the Halle Marktkirche had always been occupied by outstanding virtuosi and composers, and with W. F. Bach the last of them quit the service. The twenty or so surviving Halle cantatas by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach form a long-neglected body of music which is in many respects unparalleled. They represent extraordinarily individual attempts to emulate the musical achievements of his great paternal teacher and model, and to develop them further. Thus this son of Bach arrived at solutions to problems in his works which strive repeatedly towards grace and pathos, brilliance and originality, artistic diversity and natural simplicity.
