ISBN M-007-04880-8. With Language: German. Bach's first cantata for the election of the Leipzig town council, composed in August 1723, is one of his most splendidly scored work from his Leipzig period. The choice of opening, with the "representative" form of a French overture, was suited to a festive orchestral scoring. Two choral movements frame a middle section which consists of two arias and a recitativo accompagnato with a trumpet ritornello. The conclusion of this extended festive music takes a reflective turn in movements 8 and 9, when Bach allows a recitative to be followed by simple, prayer-like chorale movement. (New edition in preparation, ed. by Uwe Wolf).

Now has the hope and the strength (Chorus for St. Michael's Day). By Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Edited by Reinhold Kubik. For SATB/SATB choir, 2 oboes, oboe d'amore, 3 trumpets, timpani, 2 violin, viola, basso continuo. This edition: Paperbound. D-Dur (D major). Score available separately - see item CA.3105050. Cantatas, Special days. Study score. Language: German/English. Composed circa 1740. BWV 50. 48 pages. Duration 5 min. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3105057). With Language: German/English. Cantatas, Special days. composed in the late period, around 1740 A lively discussion about the choral movement Nun ist das Heil und die Kraft has been carried on, in which not only all previous assumptions have been called into question - including Bach's authorship - but also show how little we know about the history of this magnificent movement. Even though there is little to refute the 1982 presumption that the work was handed down in the form of an arrangement, the question remains open concern-ing the identity of the arranger, as well as the alleged form of the original design. Therefore it seemed appropriate to forego any attempts at reconstruct-ion. Rather, for the present new edition the music has been critically examined and commented upon based on the surviving copy from Bach's circle.

Duration 6 minutes. Published by Editions Delatour France (D2.DLT0088). ISBN 979-0-56017-395-5. Baroque. 21 x 29.7 cm inches. The original manuscript, dating from about 1740-45, is preserved at the Tokyo University 'Ueno Gakuen'. If this dating, drawn from the manuscript is correct, it would make the final BWV 998 the last Lute's composition by Bach which we have knowledge. It had probably belonged to the famous private collection of Carl Philipp Emanuel.
