Concerto in A Minor by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). Arranged by Brian Slawson. Mallet Sextet. For glockenspiel, xylophone, vibraphone, 2 small marimbas (4 octaves), 4.3 octave (low A) marimba. NOTE: Two marimba players can also share a 4.3 octave (low A) marimba if instruments are limited (6 players). "Allegro" from Concerto for 4 Harpsichords & Strings (BWV 1065) mallet sextet from "Bach on Wood". Medium-Advanced. Score and parts on CD-ROM. 10 pages. Duration 2'30". Published by Tapspace Publications (TA.TSPCE-31). Harpsichord concertos were written throughout the Baroque era, particularly by J.S. Bach. This "Allegro" from Bach's Concerto for 4 Harpsichords & Strings (BWV 1065), however, is based on Vivaldi's, Concerto for 4 Violins in B minor, RV 580. For one composer to "borrow" material from another during Bach's time was considered a flattering gesture. Mallet instruments have much in common with the attack and decay properties of harpsichords, making arrangements such as this a natural choice. Slawson's orchestrations bring this piece further to life and it will make an excellent addition to the repertoire of any percussion ensemble wishing to highlight a Baroque selection for only mallet instruments. This arrangement for Concerto in A Minor has been heard worldwide on the popular CD, Bach on Wood which helped garner Brian Slawson a Grammy nomination of "Best New Classical Artist." This piece comes with a full, bound score and includes a CD-Rom containing an audio recording and all individual parts available for printing.

Septem Verba Christi in Cruce (2008) for SATB a cappella chorus by Thomas Oboe Lee. For Choral. Baroque Period, Classical Period, Romantic Period, 20th Century, 21st Century. Advanced Intermediate. Score. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (S0.10004). Program note: A former student of mine at Boston College contacted me this summer and asked if I would be interested in writing a choral work for her group in the Berkshires. I was at the time completing the orchestration of my Symphony No. 7 … Roman Holidays, and so was ready to do something new and different from a purely instrumental work. Having been raised a Catholic and educated at parochial schools when I was a child in Hong Kong, and also bearing in mind the fact that I now teach at a Jesuit institution, Boston College, the idea of the passion of Christ is always in the back of my mind. As a matter of fact, I have always found religious choral music to be the ideal and most transcendent way to communicate God’s words. The Seven Last Words of Christ has been done in a musical setting most famously by Franz Joseph Haydn in a wordless string quartet. Other settings include those by Heinrich Schütz, César Franck, Sofia Gubaidulina, and James McMillan. Portion of the text could also be found in the sublime St. John Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach and Passio by the contemporary Estonian composer, Arvo Pärt. The complete text in Latin of Septem Verba Christi in Cruce follows. 1. Pater, dimitte illis, quia nesciunt, quid faciunt. (Father, forgive them, they know not what they do.) 2. Hodie mecum eris in Paradiso. (This day thou shalt be with me in Paradise.) 3. Mulier, ecce filius tuus. (Woman, behold thy son.) 4. Deus meus, Deus meus, utquid dereliquisti me? (My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?) 5. Sitio. (I thirst.) 6. Consummatum est. (It is finished.) 7. In manus tuas, Domine, commendo spiritum meum. (Into thine hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.) This work is dedicated to my mother. About Digital Print Sheet Music Digital Print is printable sheet music available anytime, anywhere. Chorale Preludes Of The 17th And 18th Centuries edited by Hermann Keller. For organ. Organ Albums. Baroque. Difficulty: easy-medium to medium. Organ solo book. Organ notation and introductory text. 126 pages. Published by Edition Peters (PE.P04448). ISBN M-3007-5517-5. With organ notation and introductory text. Baroque. 9x12 inches. This selection of shorter and easier chorale preludes is designed to supplement Karl Straube's '45 Chorale Preludes of the Old Masters' (EP3048) , especially for use in church. We therefore selected only those pieces which can be used today - transposed, where necessary, to more suitable keys. In the case of important chorales, several treatments were included, sometimes in more than one key. Musical value was the primary factor of selection, but, where possible, preferance was given to compositions not generally available elsewhere. Of the 80 pieces, 24 require the pedals; 33 do not use them; in 23, they are optional. Thus the collection offers rich material for organists at all stages of development. (Hermann Keller, Stuttgart, September 1937) Most do not require pedal; includes 18 suitable for Christmas.
