Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759). Arranged by Soon Hee Newbold. For strings. FJH Beginning Strings. Full set (score and parts). Score only also available: ST6195S. Grade 1.5. Score and set of parts. Composed 2009. Published by The FJH Music Company Inc (FJ.ST6195). Messiah is one of Handel's most beloved and famous works. Written in three acts, the libretto, designed by Charles Jennens, comes from the Old and New Testaments and tells the story of Jesus Christ. Handel wrote the work in under a month with the first premiere in the spring of 1742. The frequently performed and popular movement is the Hallelujah Chorus which concludes the second part. There is a legend that King George II was so inspired by the music that he stood to his feet. Whether the story is true or not, tradition still has people standing during the Hallelujah Chorus. Messiah is not originally intended as a Christmas work and earlier performances likely happened more during Lent and Easter. The many arrangements and versions, even by Handel, including one by Mozart, make it impossible to establish an authentic original; however, the work is still heavily performed every year, particularly around the holidays. About FJH Beginning Strings Appropriate for first year string students. All instruments stay in first position, and optional third violin (viola) parts and piano are included to aid in rehearsal and performance situations. Grade 1 - 1.5

Sonata in F (for solo mallet percussion with piano accompaniment). By George Frideric Handel (1685-1759). Arranged by Brian Slawson. Mallet solo with piano accompaniment. For small marimba (4 octave), piano accompaniment. NOTE: The mallet part may also be played on xylophone or vibraphone (1 player). Percussion Solos. Medium. Score and parts on CD-ROM. 8 pages. Duration 3'30". Published by Tapspace Publications (TA.TSPCS-14). This popular Allegro from Handel's Sonata in F Major for violin has been performed for centuries on a variety of instruments. While playing it on marimba isn't a new concept, one of the biggest challenges performers face lies within the accompaniment. In addition to the mallet-customized solo part, Slawson has created a piano arrangement that is well stylized and isn't clumsy under the fingers which these figured bass transcriptions can be known for. Ideally played on marimba with two mallets, the solo can also be played on vibraphone or xylophone while showcasing intermediate performers ability to interpret Baroque phrasings and style. As an etude or recital piece, Sonata in F will be a mainstay in any developing mallet player's repertoire. This piece comes with a full, bound score and includes a CD-Rom containing an audio recording and both the solo and accompaniment parts available for printing.

Savage Classical Guitar Duet Editions. The master of counterpoint at his best.. Baroque. Student/Intermediate. Parts. Standard. 54 pages. Published by Savage Classical Guitar Transcriptions (SJ.SCGT-0221A). ISBN 0974962694. With Standard. baroque. BWV 787-801 Originally designed as a useful teaching tool for the guitar student/teacher, this collection of "fantasia" otherwise known as Sinfonia by Bach, are the continuation of his Keyboard Invention Series, whereby the master illustrates writing for 3 voices or "parts". As the collection was edited, it became clear that, as a teacher's aid, it was invaluable, but it also leant itself to the repertoire of the guitar virtuouso duet team. The pieces are vigorous at tempo, presenting one challenge after another. Commonsensically arranged for 2 guitars, each piece is thoughtfully mapped out, leaving the entire piece intact, whereby each guitarist shares a heavy technical burden. In other words, there is little rest for the weary here! Fully fingered and marked, all guitarists will find this an invaluable source of learning, technique, and the ability to play in an ensemble environment. These are the separate parts comprising the master score, individually bound. Please note that these individual parts come with Catalog # SCGT-0221.

Violin Sonatas Vol.1 by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759). Edited by Burrows. For Violin and Piano (Harpsichord) (Cello/Viola da Gamba). This edition: Urtext. Sheet Music. Published by Edition Peters (PE.P7315). . . . there's quite a bit of question as to what exactly constitutes Handel's violin sonatas. . . . Editor Donald Burrows feels that, because of range and style, some of these suspect works also were intended as violin sonatas. . . . The advantage of the newly reprinted Peters edition is that there are more pieces to choose from, the music is clear and easy to read, the page turns considerate, and the keyboard realization simple, but effective. --Sarah Freiberg, for STRINGS (September 2010) 6 Sonatas (G minor, D minor, A major, D minor, A major, E major).
