Sonata No.4 in G Major (from Il Pastor Fido) - Score and parts by Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741). For Soprano/Descant Recorder and Basso Continuo. Recorder with Keyboard or Continuo. Score and Parts. Published by Pan Verlag (MM.PAN0876). Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (March 4, 1678, Venice - July 28, 1741, Vienna), nicknamed Il Prete Rosso, meaning "The Red Priest," was an Italian priest and baroque music composer. Most of his repertoire was rediscovered only in the first half of the 20th century in Turin and Genoa, and was published in the second half. Vivaldis music is innovative, breaking a consolidated tradition in schemes; he gave brightness to the formal and the rhythmic structure of the concerto, repeatedly looking for harmonic contrasts, and invented innovative melodies and themes. Moreover, Vivaldi was able to compose non-academic music, particularly meant to be appreciated by the wide public, and not only by an intellectual minority. The joyful appearance of his music reveals in this regard a transmissible joy of composing. These are among the causes of the vast popularity of his music. This popularity soon made him famous also in countries like France, at the time very independent in its musical taste. Vivaldi is considered one of the composers who brought Baroque music (with its typical contrast among heavy sonorities) to evolve into a classical style. 17 page score with parts.

Sonata Sexta - Score by Johann Heinrich Schmelzer (1620-1680). For guitar and violin. Guitar Music. Score. Published by Pan Verlag (MM.PAN0853). Johann Heinrich Schmelzer was born around 1623. Not much is known of his youth. In 1649 he became a member of the Viennese court orchestra, and in 1658 conductor of the "Kaiserliche lnstrumentalmusik". In 1679, under the reign of Leopold I, he was made vice apellmeister, and soon took over a large part of the duties of G.F. Sances, the ailing court Capellmeister. In 1673 Schmelzer was knighted and in 1679, after Sances death, at last attained the post of court Capellmeister. He died in 1680 in Prague, presumably a victim of the plague. The Sonata presented here is from one of Schmelzers main works for violin, the "Sonatae unarum fidium seu a violono solo", which appeared in print around 1664. As early as 1660, a contemporary diary refers to Schmelzer as "the famous and possibly most distinguished violinist in all Europe". He seems to have been particularly gifted for virtuoso passage work, with a mastery of the bow that made daring leaps and string crossings possible even at high speed. Schmelzers compositions had a lasting influence on the next generation.
