Milestones is an album recorded in February and March 1958 by Miles Davis. It is renowned for including Miles' first forays into the developing modal jazz experiments, as noticed on the piece Miles (renamed Milestones), which would be followed to its logical conclusion on Kind of Blue. Blow the cobwebs away with this great up-tempo jazz number with open section for solos, plus plenty of action for the whole band.

Pick Up The Pieces is a song by the Average White Band from their eponymous album, AWB. It is essentially an instrumental apart from the song title being sung at several points in the song. It features, arguably, the most instantly recognisable grooves in funk music. The song was released in Britain on July 1974 but failed to make an impression. When the album was released in America in October 1974, radio stations started to pick up on the song and, on 22nd February 1975, the groove went to the top of the US singles chart. It then charted in the UK and climbed to number six. Phil Collins commissioned a full big band version from Arif Mardin who produced the original album for the AWB. In the key of F minor.

Moon River is a song composed by Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini in 1961. It was sung in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's by Audrey Hepburn, the movie's star, while the song itself won that year's Academy Award for Best Song for Mercer and Mancini. The success of the song was responsible for re-launching Mercer's career as a songwriter, which had stalled in the mid-1950s as rock and roll replaced jazz standards as the popular music of the time. This is a laid back swing arrangement based on the Quincy Jones version on the album This Time by Basie. Mainly featuring the Saxophone section but including muted Trumpet and Piano solos. A popular standard well within the range of most school bands. Just the number to re-create the relaxed style of the Basie band. Top note A for lead Trumpet. Key of F. With optional Flute. Many other artists have also covered the song, including Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Paul Anka, Sarah Vaughan, Sarah Brightman, Billy Eckstine, Liz Callaway, The Afghan Whigs, Morrissey, R.E.M., Judy Garland, Patsy Ann Noble, Victoria Williams, Barbra Streisand, Bradley Joseph, and The Innocence Mission.

Duke Ellington called him the world's greatest drummer, and Bellson, to this day, lives up to the description. He's a composer, arranger, bandleader, tireless jazz educator, pioneered the use of two bass drums, and in terms of the speed of his hands and feet and the wonderful, percussive ideas he conveys on the drums, stands next to only Buddy Rich as the total technician. This up-tempo classic swing number has proved to be one of the most popular titles in our catalogue. Top note A for lead Trumpet. Lively but not difficult, written out solos for Trumpet and Tenor Saxophone, plus Drum breaks and a Carillon ending. In the key of F.

One of the all time great standards. After a solo Piano introduction the lyrical melody played by the first Tenor Saxophone is combined with an underlying 6/4 Jazz Swing backing from the rhythm section, with the full band joining on the second chorus. Open twelve bar sequence has written solos for Flute and Trombone before the Brass and Saxes return, building to a driving Forte ending. A high C is the top note for lead trumpet. In the key of B flat.
